Looking Up A Little Bit

Posted by Heather Manning On April - 22 - 2008

Guess what I got yesterday?  My replacement income tax check.  Did you see the heavens open up with a burst of light?  Can you hear the angels singing Hallelujah?  I just about dropped to my knees in the hallway when I opened the mail box.  LOL  Seriously, I did.  All of us, sicker than dogs got in the car, put the money in the bank.  Then we got quarters to do laundry.  Which ended up not getting done.  LOL

I came home really quick because Jordan gets off the bus at 4:10.  I paid the internet bill online, the electric bill online.  Then bundled the girls up, took Jordan to soccer.  While he was there we went to the store and got a huge box of diapers and a big old package of wipes.  Went back, held Alyce in the car while we watched Jordan finish up.  Then we came home.  Pato called, I told him about hearing the angels in the hallway.  He said, huh?  I got my income tax check.  YAY!  He was relieved too.  And he understands why I don’t want to see his sister for a long time.  Being lied too is not on my list of qualities I appreciate from friends and family, you know?

I feel so much less stressed with money in the checking account.  You know?  I am in serious need of some sort of acne treatment  after these last few weeks.  My poor cheeks are all broke out.  I never broke out in high school.  Maybe one pimple here and there.  Now that I am 30?  The tiniest bit of stress sends my face into turmoil add to the fact that I have my little visitor right now.  Lord I’m pretty.  ROFL

I got up at 3:45 this morning to lightening.  I had the shade open a little bit with the window cracked and it was lightening out something fierce.  I checked the weather on my phone (that sounds weird doesn’t it?  LOL) and it said we were in the middle of a sever thunderstorm warning, so I stumbled out here and unplugged my computer.  Then stood at the window and watched it come down until Katiana started crying over the thunder and woke up Alyce.  Went back in, comforted them and went back to sleep.  When I got up at 7, I hit snooze oh – 10 times.  Got out of bed at 7:30.  And here it is 8:07 and Jordan is just getting out of the shower.  Alyce is back to sleep on the couch.  That poor baby has been running a fever forever.

Oh my goodness you guys.  You should see the folder of work that Jordan has to do.  I completely understand cuz he missed a week of school, but I asked him when he got home, “Do you have make up work?”  He said, not that much.  I open up his book bag and it all just falls out.  Not that much huh?  I had him do 2 sheets last night.  Tonight I told him he needs to get 3 of them done.  My son’s concentration is not that great at the end of the day when the adderol has worn off.  So, the 2 sheets were a battle.  If I get him going right after school tonight, he should be able to get those done without much of a battle.

I’m hoping to get a few loads of laundry done today.  I may have to wait until Jordan gets home if Alyce is still feeling the way she was the last few days or so.  He’ll have to push the baskets down while I carry her or vice versa.  If she’s feel better when she wakes up then she can walk down.  She doesn’t walk much when she’s sick.  LOL  She prefers to be carried everywhere.  You should actually see her try to walk when she’s sick.  She’s so wobbly.  And she’ll trip over the carpet.  You know the stuff that’s been on the floor of apartment since we moved in 3 years ago and it really hasn’t changed locations?  Usually when she’s like this and I see her trying to get from point A to point B, I’ll go offer her my finger so she can get where she wants to go with no falling.  Poor baby.  When she’s not sick, she runs now.  I swear, normally she is really steady on her feet.

Ok, Jordan is out the door, both girls are sleeping, cancel that, Katiana is still sleeping.  I’m going to hit the blog train and see if I can’t get some work done on this collab.  :o

Have a wonderful day!!

Antibiotic Failure?

Posted by Heather Manning On April - 21 - 2008

That’s what the doctor called what happened to Jordan.  I took Jordan and Alyce back to be seen on Saturday because they weren’t feeling great yet.  In fact, I was starting to think I was going to have to take Alyce to the ER for her coughing and breathing.

Jordan was complaining of not being able to walk because his legs hurt so much.  The doctor looked in his ear and said, we call this an antibiotic failure after 3-4 days.  He’s got a double ear infection now.  I said, is that why his legs are hurting?  He said, oh yeah.  I’m surprised he’s not hurting everywhere.  Seriously people, only my son comes up with all this stuff going on that I’ve never seen happen with an ear infection.  He’s now on a new antibiotic.  He slept most of the day yesterday, but seems back to his normal self this morning.  I emailed his teacher and let her know what was going on and to call me if he has any issues today.

Now, Alyce – has a stomach virus – I’m going to get that he said that because of her tummy issues and high fever.  But the cough?  All related.  Ok.  He said the FDA is cracking down on them prescribing cough medicine for babies so elevate her head, vaporizer, etc.  Yeah, none of that works.  She’s still miserable.  She’s laying on my right now.  :o (  Her fever seems to have gone down a little though.  She’s still warm, just not burning my skin hot.

Katiana decided to join the rest of them last night with a high fever and cough.  At least she takes medicine willingly man.  Alyce spits it out all over me.  The only thing she will take is the grape tylenol drops for babies.  And yesterday I made the mistake of giving her the cherry children’s.  I figured I was giving it to Kat, I would give it to Alyce and be done.  Nope, she spit that all over me.  And herself.

After the girls woke up from their 4th nap of the day at like 7 last night, I threw them both in the shower to wash of all the sticky icky sicky stuff.   That seemed to cheer them up for about 20 minutes or so.  Yeah, it probably would have continued if Pato wouldn’t have called me and told me possibly 2 more weeks on his Visa.  Yeah, pick the time to tell me this when I have a fever, the girls have fevers, and all 4 of us are coughing our lungs out.  It ended with us screaming at each other and him wanting to know if I’d rather have him get a coyote (not the animal) and walk 3-4 hours across the river to come into the US.  And I was like, NOOOOO!  And he said, well, you want me home, now now now.  Why not that way?  Um, because I don’t want you to DIE you big stupid jerk.

Will ya’all remind me when he gets home that it doesn’t matter if we can’t afford an immigration lawyer, we seriously need to start his papers so we don’t have to go through this ever again.

That’s where we are.  He’s calling the lady today who is helping him with his Visa and seeing if there is anything he can do to speed this up.  Seeing as there are 3 kids waiting for him up here.  He said, you think I have not done that?  I said, I don’t care.  Check again.

That lady told Pato about a law that is supposed to go into effect in June.  Or they are trying to pass in June.  If you are Mexican, and you have kids here in the US, next time you come across the border they will take away your Visa?  I don’t think that’s the legal mumbo jumbo, but that is what he was told by the lady assisting him with his Visa.  I’m going to assume they are talking about people who come across the border just to have their kids so that their kids are Americans?  Because if they try to take away his Visa because he has kids here, that is not right.  I am an American citizen born and raised here.  My children are American citizens born and raised here.  Does anybody know anything more about this law?  I tried googling it so I could write my representatives if it actually does effect us and our kids in that way.   I am so tired of immigration at this point.  Really I am.

So, how was your weekend?  LOL  Hopefully not full of sick kids and immigration issues.  LOL  Ok, chin up, I’m not going to dwell on this today.  I got it out, I feel better.  I’m going to hope my kids all wake up feeling better (yes, Alyce is back to sleep.), I’m going to take a shower.  Jordan’s got soccer practice, which we’ll probably all have to sit in the car for if my girls aren’t feeling better yet.  He missed every practice and game last week.  I’m wondering if he should go tonight and just kind of take it easy, build his strength back up?  You know how it is when you’ve been really sick for a week, all your strength is zapped?  We’ll see.

Good news, I got an email from Sprint that my rebate check should be here with in 4 weeks.  ROFL  Thanks for being on the ball with that.  That’s $200.00.  Too bad the federal government hasn’t sent me an email that they sent out my replacement check?   And after telling Pato on Saturday that she Western Unioned me the $300.00 on Saturday, my SIL left me a voice mail that no she hadn’t and that she’d be sending me $250.00 today (Today as in today?  or today as in a week and a half from today – like last Saturday?).  If I lose internet access any time soon, you’ll know why.   Ok, now I’ve got it out.  I’m done.

You guys do know that not only are you awesome listeners, but that this is very therapeutic for me.  Seriously.  Let’s me start off my day getting all my frustrations out, then I can start fresh with no complaints.  LOL  I promise, I’ll get back to a happy go lucky blog  soon.  Oh, I did layouts while holding Alyce yesterday.  I forgot!  There’s some happy!

I used the same kit to make both of those.  Can you believe it?  I know!  ROFL  It’s Colour Me Beautiful by Dawn Inskip.  Don’t you love that color wheel?   I thought that was so cute.  The frames on the baby in the box layout are actually my own.  They are from the new set Old Edges 2 – soon to be released, like around NSD.

Ok, see, I can look at smiling pictures of my children being good and I feel all better now.  Have a beautiful day!

Another trip to the doctor

Posted by Heather Manning On April - 19 - 2008

is in store for today.  Alyce sounds like she has bronchitis.  :o (  Kat’s coughing.  Jordan is coughing.  And he’s not going to his soccer game.  After a week of missing school and the way he sounds, I’m not taking the risk.  (My parents were going to take him out to the game so I didn’t have to take sick girls out.)  He just sounded horrible last night.  You’d think after 3 days on antibiotics, he’d start doing better, wouldn’t you?

I think I’m going to tell Pato after this week I deserve a nice big diamond ring.  LOL  (Mine is kinda small.)  After this last 6 weeks, I deserve sainthood.  LOL  Ok, maybe not.  A saint wouldn’t have complained as much as I have.  That would be why they qualify for sainthood and I don’t.  LOL

I’m kinda bummed.  Guess who is in Des Moines tonight?  Craig Ferguson.  With all the surcharges one ticket is over $62.  Yeah, not in my cards today.  He’s so funny.  I would have loved to have gone.  Our local TV station was giving away tickets, but alas, I didn’t win a ticket to see my favorite funny Scotsman.  He’s Scottish, I’m Scottish.  It would have been so beautiful.  ROFL  Ok, maybe Pato wouldn’t have appreciated that.  LOL

Don’t forget my sale I have going on right now!  And tomorrow morning, I’ll pick one order for a $20/GC to the store from this week’s orders.

I think we all need a little break in prices at this point.  LOL  How about 40% off of commercial AND personal use items!  Check out the store!

Have a great day!

One of my kids -

Posted by Heather Manning On April - 19 - 2008

took all my stamps out of my purse and decorated my purse with them.  And they were still Christmas stamps.  (Shows you how often I use snail mail, huh?)  So, my purse is all decorated in teddy bears and christmas trees.  Wasn’t that nice of whoever did it?  I’m going to think it was the middle one.  She has an obsession with stickers.  I think I need to buy some postage tape so that when I want to mail something, I can just print out my own stamp.  Although, if they decorated my purse in those labels, it wouldn’t be nearly as pretty unless they colored on them first.

Is anyone keeping track?

Posted by Heather Manning On April - 18 - 2008

We are at 5 days of missed school now for Jordan.  Should I just spell it out right.  LOL  I hate typing that word, you guys know what I mean with tummy issues.  He had a couple more problems yesterday last night with it.  When I talked to the nurse yesterday she said, no school for 24 hours after the last incident.  *sigh*  What do you do.  Actually, last night he was still feeling really bad.  Fell asleep at about 4:30 on the couch and didn’t wake up until I woke him up to take his antibiotic for the ear infection.  Then he went right back to sleep.  Didn’t want to move to his own bed or anything.  I really hope he feels better today, he’s now had 3 doses of the antibiotic.  Poor guy.

And Miss Alyce, man, she woke up probably 6 times last night, not actually waking up, but wanting to sleep ON TOP of me.  So she’s like crawl over and climp up.  Then she’d go back to la la land, and I’d roll her off of me onto the bed, and she’d want back on about an hour later.  She felt so warm.  I actually thought about taking her temp a few times but I didn’t want to wake her up all the way.  (She wasn’t like let’s go to the hospital hot – just really warm.)  Can I *sigh* again.  We’re going to get all healthy around here than no more sickies for awhile, k?  I just popped me 2 tylenol to get rid of my achy feeling.

I talked to Pato last night, he has a meeting with someone today regarding something.  ROFL  But, he’s hoping this is it, that he’ll be coming home after this.  I hope so.  He sister still hasn’t sent the money that she told him she’d send me last Saturday until my replacement income tax check gets here.  Which, also still isn’t here.  I told him last night not to call his sister again.  I’m not going to rely on her.  I’ll find a way to make this $2.00 last.  ROFL  Ok, maybe not.  He did get a hold of the guy at work who owes him money, and he’s going to bring over part of the money that he owes Pato.  $100.  Let’s see, that will cover the phone bill for the internet (we don’t have a home phone, we just use our cells), $36.99.  And I can do laundry finally.   Good thing Jordan didn’t go to school today, he had no clean jeans.  Oops.  LOL  And I can put my gas in my car on the off chance that Jordan feels good enough to make it to his soccer game tomorrow.  I’m also waiting on my sprint rebate checks for our phones, that I sent out – oh, the day that he left for Mexico.  6 weeks ago today.  That would be nice to get too.  Seriously if my checks would get here that would be $862 dollar between the 2.  I could make that last a LONG time.

Ok, enough complaining, what else has been going on?  Not a lot with the kids being sick.

Oh, Bunny gave me the Pico award.  How sweet!  I can’t believe I remembered to blog it.  LOL

The award has rules, the first being to post the rules, so here goes:

) You have to pick 5 blogs that you consider deserve this award for their creativity, design, interesting material, and also for contributing to the blogging community, no matter what language. (Nominations will follow rules.)

2) Each award has to have the name of the author and also a link to his or her blog to be visited by everyone.

3) Each award winner has to show the award and put the name and link to the blog that has given her or him the award itself. In my case, that would be Bunny.

4) Award-winner and the one who has given the prize have to show the link of “Arte y Pico” blog, so everyone will know the origin of this award.   http://arteypico.blogspot.com/
Make sure you visit the link above. There are crafts of all kinds shown; you are bound to come away inspired!

5) Show these rules.

So, my 5 choices are

Diane – she blogs every day, is on my CT, and does beautiful layouts and even has some freebies for you from time to time.

Jamie – for having children who keep me entertained.  LOL  She has such a fun blog and she does gorgeous layouts too!

Eve – for her fabulous blogging that always makes me giggle and her beautiful layouts!

Barb – again, awesome blog, gorgeous pictures!

Dawn – she such a way with words!  I love to go to her blog and she has such gorgeous pictures too!

That was hard to choose between all the blogs I go to every day!

Now on to my store stuff!

How about that?  I think we all need a little break in prices at this point.  LOL  How about 40% off of commercial AND personal use items!  Check out the store!

And to sweeten the deal a little bit, how about a silk overlay for you?  You can grab it in the store for free!

That’s all from me today!  Have a wonderful day!

Oh what a day already

Posted by Heather Manning On April - 17 - 2008

I’m sick of sick.  LOL  I took Jordan to the doctor yesterday, actually, I took all 3 of them.  Kill 3 birds with 1 stone type of thing.

Funny, JOrdan didn’t start complaining about his ear until yesterday.  He said he couldn’t hear out of it.  The doctor said that didn’t surprise him because he had a really bad ear infection.  HUH?  That’s what this all is??  He still has the tummy issues so he couldn’t go to school again today.  I talked to the nurse and she said that he couldn’t come back to school until 24 hours after his last incident unless his doctor was willing to write a note saying that he wasn’t contagious at all.  I know his doctor won’t do that because he said it’s possible the ear infection is causing the other.  But, he’s not going to guarantee that.  Ya know?  If Jordan has even one incidence of it today, he can’t go to school tomorrow either.  AGH!  Here’s hoping.  I haven’t seen him run to the bathroom yet, so hopefully all is on the mend.

He thinks Katiana has a tummy ache because brother has a tummy ache.  Because she was fine at the office.  LOL  But, this morning she was complaining of her’s too.

And Alyce he thinks hers is teething.  She’s got the same tummy thing, both Jordan and Alyce are running fevers, and you know what’s fun.  Her nose is running like a faucet and all 3 of us are coughing.  I got up this morning all achy like I have one too.  I didn’t take my temperature, but I took 2 ibuprofin for the aches and within 40 minutes I was breaking the fever.  So, I feel better right now.

Man, shouldn’t we be past this stage in the year when everyone is sick?  I have so much work to get done, and it’s 9:30 and this is the first time Alyce has let me sit down.  And I don’t see it lasting long.

I’m working on that grab bag for NSD, I’ve got the kit done and it’s so pretty!  I can’t wait for you to see it!  And I’ve got a collab in the works with ———- Dawn Inskip.  The colors we have picked are so neat!  And the name, the name is awesome!  And I want to get another kit done for release on NSD.  Think I’ll ever get this all done in time?  Only if Pato gets his toosh home or my kids get better.  LOL

That’s my plan for today is to work if little children will cooperate.  But, if they don’t, you can’t blame them, none of us feel good.  :o (

I hope you have a fabulous day!

Another day home

Posted by Heather Manning On April - 16 - 2008

Due to tummy issues yesterday, Jordan has to be out of school another 24 hours.  You can go to school for 24 hours after the last um, incident.  Which was last night.  And last night he was miserable, his throat hurt, then his tummy, his head.  If he’s still feeling bad when he gets up this morning, I’m going to make a doctor’s appointment for him.  He’s missed so much school this year.  I don’t think he’s ever had so many sicknesses in one year.  Is it everybody and stuff going around?  Or just my kid?

Then Alyce, she has had the same tummy issues.  And the poor kid has diaper rash so bad from it that she screams when she pees.  I’ve been covering her in that butt paste and it looks better but she still hurts a lot.  It doesn’t matter how quickly I get that diaper off, it hurts her poor little butt.

And Katiana started complaining last night that her tummy hurt.  So, looks like all of them have whatever it is Jordan has.  :o (  Wouldn’t it be nice if Pato would get here in the middle of this to give me a break?  LOL

I think I need to put on one of those masks so I don’t breathe in all of their germs.  That and run around and Oust everything.

That’s our plan of action today.  To see how children feel when they get up in the morning and then make an appointment if people are still feeling yucky.  I’m sure he’s going to tell me it’s just a virus, nothing you can do, but with Jordan missing 3 days of school, I’ve got to have back up from the doctor.  Ya know?

I’ve got to call the dentist and cancel their appointment and reschedule.  That’s always nice.  It’s so hard to get an appointment right away there for 2 kids.  And I’ve got to email Jordan’s soccer coach and tell him that he’s still sick.  No practice tonight.

Alyce just got up and is laying on my lap.  I think I’m getting noid again, because she feels warm to me.  I’m going to give her a few minutes to wake up and let her body temperature adjust from being under the blankets before I take her temperature.

What is going on?  It’s April!  Shouldn’t we be done with this by now?  Obviously not.

I talked to Pato last night.  I tell you, I am not going to believe that he is coming home until I get a call from his cell phone telling me he is in the states.  When he told me he thought he’d be home this week, I said, want to place bets on that.  Well, this week isn’t over, but I’m kinda losing faith.  He’s still hoping that things will hurry up and he can be here this week.  I’m not going to hold my breath.

The reason I called him though is because I’ve got $14 in the checking account after paying bills.  My replacement income tax check still hasn’t gotten here yet.  (I finally canceled the one that the bank said they sent back to me and requested a new one.  That first check, never arrived here.  Never.)  So, I canceled the first one like 3 weeks ago, but the IRS recording said it could take 45 days for a replacement.  That’s $662.  His sister said she would send me $500 until it got here.  She sent $200.  One of my bills I had to split up between the debit card on his checking account, my debit card, my pay pal debit card, and my charge card.  I don’t know if she thought I needed the money just to live on?  And that $200 would be fine til he got here.  I needed it to pay bills that are due.  Plus, I need to wash clothes.  I’m so frustrated with him right now.  He’s got a guy at work that owes him $170 but he can’t bring that until Friday.  I have less than 1/4 of a tank of gas.  And gas prices are out of this world.  You know if I just would have gotten my check back from the bank, this would not be happening right now.  I’d really like to know where it went.  And if Pato would have been home when he said he was going to be, none of this would be happening right now.  Pato is going to call his sister today and tell her to send the other $300.  He said she probably just forgot.  I said, well, yeah, that’s great, but I have $14 to my name.  Not a great time to forget.  I HATE relying on other people.  I really really do.

You guys don’t mind my rant do you?  I have got to get it out.  Don’t feel sorry for us, I don’t.  I’m mad.  LOL  And the money should get here, it’s just a matter of when.  I think I’m just panicking because I’ve never been this close to broke.  We’ve never been rich, but there’s always been money for whatever we needed.  Ya know?  I’ve had to pinch pennies, but not so tight they screamed.  Poor Abe.

Alright, enough moaning.  I’ve got to cancel that dentist appointment and wake Jordan up to see if I need to make a doctor’s appointment.  I’ll never get one if I don’t call this early.

Have a great day!

Gas Price Break?

Posted by Heather Manning On April - 15 - 2008

I think I forgot to blog yesterday that Jordan stayed home yesterday with a horrible headache.  He was crying when I woke him up.  He had probably 2 hours yesterday that he felt good.  He fell asleep at 4:30 and slept through the night.  I just got him up at 7.  He’s complaining of his head and neck hurting.  You know, strep throat always starts out that way for him.  I gave him a tylenol, stuck him in the shower, and said we’d see how he feels when he gets out.  So, keep your fingers crossed that the shower and the tylenol revive him and he’s good to go to school.  Otherwise it’s off to the doctor again for us.  I really hope he doesn’t have strep again.  He’s had it 3 times this year so far.  He really can’t afford to miss more school.  :o (

I’m not going to turn this into a political discussion, though most of you know I’m a political junkie.  LOL  I just want to know what you think of this.

McCain proposes break in Gas Taxes

Wouldn’t that be nice?  I’m not sure what the repercussions would be of suspending the gas tax from Memorial Day to Labor Day, but that 18.4 cents off a gallon would drop it down some.  That would help me right away.  You know, it’s all about me at this point.  Or you, and your family, and how it affects you.  I haven’t been going anywhere lately, with Pato gone, I’m scared to waste money on gas right now.  When Kat was a baby, we were on the go all the time.  Not any more man, we’ve turned into home bodies.  I put $25 in my windstar the other day and it took me up to just barely over 1/4 of a tank.  And I wasn’t completely on empty.  Close, but not riding the red line or anything.  Granted it’s got a big tank, but $25 doesn’t get you hardly any gas anymore.

I remember when I first started driving, gas was $.89/gallon.  Oh for those days.  I could fill up my tank on that $25 and have some left over.

What do you do?  Do you get frustrated when you hear that oil companies are having record breaking profits?  And that Iraq is heading towards a $60 billion year in profits on oil.  And we are being ripped at the pumps.  That’s what this is all stemming from isn’t it?  The price of a barrel of oil, driving up gas prices, driving up food prices, driving up prices to deliver things, driving up the actual price of consumer goods because it cost more to deliver it.  It seems like everything I hear is in relation to oil prices.

I really shouldn’t read the news on my phone before I blog should I?

What else?  Yesterday really was a quiet day for us.  I worked a lot while the kids slept.  I’ve got a new kit I’m working on to go into a grab bag for National Scrapbooking Day.  The kit is almost done – ok, I’m almost done with the paper part of it.  Still have to do elements.

And there is a collab in the works.  I’m really excited to be working with this fabulous designer.  We haven’t given ourselves a deadline because of life you know, but I’m hoping Pato will be back this week, he’s hoping to be back this week, we’ll see.  I don’t know what he’s doing and honestly, at this point, I don’t want to know.  Just do it and get home please.  But, this kit should be FABULOUS!  Ask Gabs who I’m collabing with, maybe she’ll tell you?  LOL

If you weren’t here yesterday, look what Melissa Bennett made with my Berry-Licious kit.

Is that not gorgeous???  There are also 4 cover/back pages extra.  She did such an awesome job with Berry-Licious.  What a FABULOUS bracket album!

You can grab it here at Digiscrapping.net or here at Purple Paper Flowers!  This bracket album works with the Basic Grey bracket albums.  I so need to buy 2 now.  Grandmas are getting these for Mother’s Day Presents!   Aw crud, I just remembered my mom reads my blog.  Nope, if you peak you don’t get it mom.  ROFL

I think that’s it for me.

Have a superb day!

P.S.  It’s official.  Jordan is home sick.  Yucky tummy.  Can’t go to school today, and I think up until 24 hours after his last visit to the bathroom.  Poor kid.
