Had a slight heart attack yesterday morning -

Posted by Heather Manning On April - 26 - 2008

I never came back to back to blog after the morning I had yesterday.  I was sitting here and Jordan was trying to show me how he can finally tie his shoe.  (Yes, 9 years old and he’s just figuring that out.)  I looked up and said Jordan, there’s the bus!  go go go!  So he ran, and as he’s running the bus starts to pull away.  I was yelling, WAIT FOR JORDAN! cuz the windows were open, I thought she might hear me.  No, she didn’t.  I told Jordan to come back and I’d take him to school.

I come in here, pull on a pair of sweat pants and a bra, grabbed a onsie, put it on Alyce and headed outside.  He’s gone.  No where to be found.  My heart rammed into my chest.   The logical part of me said, ok, the bus must have stopped.  The illogical part of me who enjoys the heart thumping rush of adrenaline I think said, what if he took off running after the bus, someone saw him running, said I’ll take you to school, and kidnapped him.  You can’t be too careful.  I put the girls in the van and off we went.  I was hoping that he wouldn’t have thought he could walk to school.  You have to cross one of the busier streets where we live (when I say busy, I mean the interstate entrance is right as you turn the corner to get on the road you take to his school.  I hoped he knew better.

I didn’t see him on the way, so I called the school while I was sitting in the parking lot there and asked if he was there.  The office said the busses hadn’t let off yet but that as soon as they did she would call Jordan’s teacher.  If he wasn’t there she’d call me.  HUH?  I didn’t want to sit and worry til they called me, or didn’t call me.  But I went and drove around that area until 8:48 and called again.  Well, his teacher didn’t answer the phone when she had called down, she’d try again.  And if he wasn’t there she would have Jordan’s teacher call me.  I really didn’t like that, what if she didn’t answer the phone again, and Jordan wasn’t there.  We’d be losing precious minutes.  Seriously, I was getting a little noid.  I waited, and waited, and 10 minutes went by until my phone rang.  It was Jordan’s teacher and he was there.  THANK YOU!   She had talked to him and he told her that someone had told the bus driver that Jordan was running after it and she stopped the bus as it was pulling out of the parking lot.  (Which is down another building from where I am.)  His teacher had a talk with him about scaring mom to death and that I didn’t know where he was.  He didn’t quite get it.  He thought he was doing good by getting on the bus so I wouldn’t have to drive him to school.  He didn’t realize that as I saw him turning around, in my head he had missed the bus and it had left.

So the good news was that my son wasn’t kidnapped.  I have such an overactive imagination.  See, that’s where Pato and I ground each other.  When it comes to things like that, he’s the voice of sanity.  He doesn’t get worked up until he sees a need to get worked up.  I’m rather hyper and get worked up when I see a small problem.  He balances me.  I miss him.

So, anyone use Skype?  I heard they had a new unlimited plan to Mexico.  And seeing as I had $45 in charges to Mexico on my cell phone bill this month (I have an international long distance plan, it was 9 cents a minute.) I thought it would be a good thing to look into.  Now, I don’t have a mic on my computer, nor do I own a headset.  But, I had read they have the Skype to go number you can use.  So, I bought the subscription to Mexico which was $11 something for 3 months, plus I added $10.00 in credit because it’s not truly unlimited, where Pato lives it’s 2 cents a minute.  Which is still cheaper than the 9 cents AND doesn’t go on my cell phone bill each month,  that is big enough on it’s own.  LOL

I plugged Pato’s mom’s number into the Speed Dial at Skype.  Called my Skype number, pressed 1 to speed dial his mom’s house, it rang once, and nothing.  I tried like 6 times.  Never got through to his mom’s house.  What am I doing wrong?  The only difference I see between the number I put in the speed dial, and the number I actually call is they don’t give me the option of dialing 011 like I have to when I call there from my cell phone.  They ask what country, I select Mexico, it pops up with the country code of 52, then I type in his mom’s number after the 52, I think I’m doing it right?

Anyways, since he will still be calling Mexico even when he gets back, I ordered the $20.00 Phillips USB phone to use with Skype.  I figure in the long run it’ll be cheaper than him using the calling cards all the time to call.  Which can be as low as 2 cents a minute, but if nobody answers when you call, you lose like half of your balance on the card.  That’s where these phone cards specializing in calls to Mexico make up all their money.  Calls that weren’t answered.  That should be here in 3 days and then I can stop using my phone to call Mexico, unless you know how to make my Skype to go number work?  LOL

We have a soccer game an hour away from us today.  I don’t get that.  There are towns around us that we don’t play, but we have to drive an hour to play this other team.  Normally, it wouldn’t bother me, but gas is mighty expensive right now, and I don’t have unlimited fundage at my disposal to play with when Pato is gone.  I’m going to print out the directions on how to get there, so I don’t screw up somehow like I always do when I go somewhere new and have to drive around looking for it.  I’m bad at finding places.  LOL

Alrighty, that’s it from me today!

Don’t forget the chat on May 3rd at 9 p.m. EST and be on the look out for that collab that’s coming.  I saw her half of it and it is awesome!!!!  I also have a grab bag in the works for NSD AND I’m going to be retiring products that weekend, and possibly a commercial use special!

Have a wonderful day!

  1. Glad he got on the bus safely. I know what you mean about worrying. I have a mental rolodex of every newspaper story or Oprah show of horrible things that can kill you kids.

Dude, I am SO like you I would have been panicking and imagining all this crazy stuff! My husband is the balancing force here also! lol

He TRIED to be good! LOL I’m hoping you can laugh about it now, but yeah – that would tend to freak almost any mom out.

Good luck with the soccer game. After work I am planning to head straight home, and try to pop out 7 more pages for that senior album so I can say it’s finished tonight. That way I can focus on finishing my April CT LOs…

Have a great day, hon! [hugs]
