How do you keep?

Posted by Heather Manning On April - 24 - 2008

a hamster water bottle from leaking all over?  You know those little bottles with the metal ball in the bottom?  The last 3 days I’ve checked it and it’s been empty in the morning.  I had Jordan check the bedding yesterday and it was soaking wet.  The bottle has been emptying out into the cage.  Poor things are going to drown.  We cleaned out the cage last night so they now have dry bedding, but how do you stop that from happening?

I’ve got to tell you something cute that happened with Alyce yesterday.  We all know she doesn’t talk much.  I mean, she talks a lot, but you can’t understand anything she says.  LOL  Yesterday, I think she decided she was going to be big like Kat.  She climbed up on the couch.  Then I hear her whining at me.  I looked over and she had tried to go over the arm of the couch to get down.  Something Kat gets talked to about constantly.  Here she was dangling from the arm of the couh, her toes not even touching the ground.  I said, What are you doing?  She said, wo nooooo.  LOL  I’m not sure if she was saying, don’t know or oh nooooo.  LOL  But it sure was cute.

I’m thinking she was starting to feel better last night.  She didn’t let me put her down and at one point she was flailing herself all over the floor screaming, but when we went to bed she didn’t throw a fit.  I nursed her for like 5 minutes and that was it.  Put it away when she started goofing around.  She looked at me and kind of gave up and went to sleep.  The last week it’s been a battle, so it was kind of nice to have her just say, ok, you win tonight.  LOL

I was going to give you a heads up for National Scrapbooking Day.  (May 3) I have a chat scheduled at 9 p.m. EST for that day.  That’s 8 p.m. my time.  (CST)  I hope to see a lot of you there!  I’ll have something for you I’m sure!  LOL

I think I’m just going to keep this short today!

Have a wonderful day!

Never had a hamster so I’m not sure, but I thought the roll-ball in the bottom of the tubve is supposed to settle into place and seal the end of the tube…

Glad to hear Alyce is better. A 20-30 lb addition to your hip can get wearing! :)

Hope your’e having a good day! [hugs]

Make sure the bottle is filled up all the way and then when you flip it over, give it a second and then use your finger to poke at the little ball a few times. This will help create a vacuum seal to keep the water in. Water should drip out while you’re poking at it, but then it should stop.

I adore my little hammie, too. Her name is Annie. Anyway… I heard that water bottles my leak if the water isnt the same temperature as the air..not sure if it is true or not, but worth a shot to let the water sit out for a bit then fill it.

Also, filling the water bottle all the way helps create the vacuum so be sure you are doing that. :)

I have never had an issue with the water bottles so I havent really needed to try the first one but thats what I heard. HTH! :D
