It was gorgeous out, or so I thought yesterday, so I packed the girls up in the wagon and we walked down to one of the ponds on the apartment property.
Like those bangs she cut herself?
It wasn’t as gorgeous as I thought. LOL A tad bit windy! There’s a close up of her bangs.
When we got to the lake, I saw the weirdest bird. At least I thought it was weird. I’d never seen one before. Kind of freaked me out because of how big it was. I was like, um – if I walk by you, do you promise to move and not attack me. (I’ve had geese charge me before)
Now, you probably know what this is, but I didn’t. LOL

Then I tried to get all nature artsy -

Mr Bird flew away, but when I walked around the pond I found him again. You can’t hide from me, I still see you!
So, we get home and I look up cranes. Cuz I thought that was what it was. I read that cranes are all rare in Iowa and I was all ready to submit this picture. I was sure fame was going to come to me. People would come from all over Iowa to see our little crane at our pond here.
I showed the picture to Bunny. She googled “Birds with eyebrows”. ROFL Turns out it’s a great blue heron. Burst my bubble. Those aren’t rare in Iowa. Well, rare to me.
Isn’t he funky though? LOL
That was our walk yesterday. And I promised the girls we’d go again today if it’s nice out. I need to lose some booty in the back. And some tummy in the front. LOL
Then we came home, cleaned the living room. I got my vacuum unplugged. Woohoo me! LOL
Then I scrapped. I did the ADSR challenge #9 -

I was thinking Heron, but surprised that they would be in Iowa in March. Must still be migrating north. Anyway, great photos of them. I can never get that close.

How lucky for you to have discovered the rare “Iowan bird with eyebrows”. I had to go back and look and he really does have eyebrows, lol! What a great lake to have so close to home. Hope it’s warmer and less windy for you today so you can get out some more.
We have a pond close to our house filled with ducks and geese too. We also have a heron, but he only shows up in the early morning when it’s really foggy and I can’t get a good pic. I got some when we were down on the Chesapeake last July though.

Here in Florida there are tons of weird birds. We have a retaining pond across the street and they all seem to flock there. Hope the girls had fun.

Cool bird! We don’t see any herons here, but growing up on Lake Erie, we’d see them a lot. Odd but neat birds!

We had a bit of windy sunshine yesterday, and the kids were hoping to get to go back outside and play today – but so far it has done nothing but rain today.
I love Great Blue Herons – they are usually very shy and it is hard to get a picture of them. If they are around it means that the pond is healthy.
Love the cut job on the bangs – at least she left a little of them. My daughter cut her’s back to the scalp!

You’re right that is a weird bird. My son the boy scout said it’s a “heron”, hubby the Eagle scout called it an Osprey, but I tend to agree with son because ospreys are hawks. BUT I don’t know. Those are gorgeous photos of the babies. You take the coolest pictures, create the most fantastic kits. I’m just in awe of your talent. Wow!
