I’m tired

Posted by Heather Manning On February - 12 - 2008

Did anybody else just want to hit the alarm clock snooze button over and over again today?  Or better yet, just turn the whole thing off?  That’s where I was.  Pato got up and I said, get Jordan in the shower please.  So, I hit snooze two more times til I absolutely had to get up to get him his clothes ready.  I’m just dragging.

After I got up and looked outside and saw the snow I thought, crap, I should have checked delays before I got him in the shower.  If he had a delay, I could have let him sleep and I could have climbed back into my warm bed again.  But alas, no snow delay today.  I’ve heard another 3-5 inches today.  They are actually worried about roads falling in somewhere south of me, that last storm where we got 10 inches, they got like a foot, but the storm right before that that only gave us 4 inches, gave them something like 18 – or something crazy ridiculous like that.  The interstate was the line, those of us north of it got 4-6 inches, those south of it got a huge amount of snow.  I saw on the news after the last snow that with the weight of the snow, they are worried about the roads being able to take it.  They were still cleaning up from the 18 inches.  Crazy.

My mom and I were supposed to go the casino, but I’m not sure what we are doing now.  My grandpa’s last living immediatly family (my grandpa died 2 1/2 years ago), his brother is in the hospital.  My Uncle Marvin is one of the most awesome people besides my grandpa that I know.  He doesn’t know who I am now mind you, but when I was younger I loved it when I lived with my grandparents and Uncle Marvin would come over, we’d play cards or play pool, he was just fun.

Anyways, the day before yesterday, his wife, my Aunt Wanda found him unconscious on the floor.  (He’s had strokes before.)  She called an ambulance.  They revived him before they got him in the ambulance.  But he was agitated and fought them.  They had to strap him down.  That day he didn’t know who anyone was.

Yesterday he knew who one of his daughters was, my mom’s cousin Cheryl.  But, he didn’t know anybody else and was still quite agitated and had to be strapped down.

This is really hard to watch.  Besides the fact that I love and adore him, it takes me back to before my grandpa died.  He was in a nursing home in Alabama.  I couldn’t get to him easily.  (He’d moved south with my aunt a couple of years earlier.)  And I kept hearing about how he would fight the nurses and they’d have to restrain him.  It just hurt so bad because that wasn’t my grandpa.  My grandpa wasn’t mean and cruel.  But the dementia was really taking hold of him, not to mention the fact that he had an infection coursing through him.  (He had to have a toe amputated due to wet gangrene.  Nobody noticed that his toe was turning black until it was too late.  How do you not notice an infection building like that, especially when they have to wear ted hose every day.  They have to be put on and off by a CNA or nurse.)  I’m not going to keep going because the whole situation still upsets me.  Which is why it’s really hard to watch my Uncle Marvin go through this.  I hate seeing him hurt and confused like this and I hate feeling like he’s going through the same thing my grandpa was going through.  (In his mind what he’s dealing with is obviously horrible for him to fight the way he is, not that he’s dealing with incompetency like my grandpa did.  Someday when I feel like I can type it without bursting into tears, I’ll tell you about what I saw when I went down for my grandpa’s final 2 days.  As a former CNA, I will tell you that I reamed a few people good and well, and I don’t do well with confrontations.  I was so angry with the way he was being treated.)

Ok, off the sad subject before I cry.  The whole point was to say that my mom may be going up to see my Uncle Marvin today.  I’m wondering if I shouldn’t go to.  Since Pato is home with the kids.  Alyce can go all day without nursing now if he gives her a bottle.  And I could nurse when I got home.  I don’t know.

Oh lordy, let me get on a happier subject.  I just brought myself down.  Wow.

I have some beautiful creative team layouts to show you!

This is from Anne, one of my Full time members!

This is from Shawna.  Another full time CT for me!

P.S.  I just talked to my mom and she’s going.  When I asked her if I could go she said no, you’re been sick.  Oh crap.  She’s right.  I’ve still got sore throat, probably not the best thing to take into an intensive care unit.  :o (  Keep them in your thoughts and prayers.  Uncle Marvin and my mom and sister.  Like I said, it’s snowing and it’s cold.  And they have a 2 hour drive ahead of them.   Thank you!

    Your family is in my thoughts. I’m sorry that you’re all going through this. It’s tough. I’d think about going too, even if you’re in the room only for a few minutes. It could be the last chance you get. {{{HUGS}}}

Wow, you’re girls sure did an awesome job with that kit.
    Have a good day!

Two days before my grandmother passed away I forced my sister to go with myself and my 9 month old daughter to see her. Amazingly she recognized my daughter and called her by name. Throughout the visit she would lose track of who my sister and I were but she always knew my daughter. She slipped into a coma that night and that was the last any of the family talked to her. Neither my sister or I wanted to go because Grandma hadn’t been really recognizing anyone for a couple of weeks before. But looking back we are both so glad that we did.

My advice for what it’s worth, is go see your uncle Marvin with your mom. I know it is difficult to see a loved one decline in their wanning days, but you never know if he will recognize you or not.

Take care of yourself & get well. Can’t play in al that wonderous snow if you’re sick. *runs & ducks*
I’ve got a couple QPs with this beautiful kit that I need to get to you. I finally figured out what was making my computer run soooooooo slow. My dear sweet loving husband did it. it’s all Nick’s fault. It’s cold here, too. Probably not as bad as there, but BRRRRRR. Is it time go to to FL yet?

  9. Thumper6423 says:

Sorry to hear about your Uncle. Hopefully you’ll get a chance to see him as soon as your sore throat clears up.

I hear ya on the snow. We got dumped on yesterday with sleet and freezing rain on top of it.

Those layouts are gorgeous! Every layout I’ve seen with your new kit is great!

    Stay warm today!
