An option regarding school for Jordan might be to arrange a Home Bound program (we did that when my Grandma had her stroke) so that you get his assignments before you go and he works on them while you're away and turns them in when he gets back. If you end up driving through El Paso, let me know, you're really close to me then! :) The new passport ID cards are less expensive and take less time and work in Mexico, so that might be another option too. I felt that way about my grandmother meeting her grandchildren to. It's a very tough decision to make, especially when it involves traveling with three small children such a long distance. On other boards when folks have had something like this come up, folks along the travel route have offered to put them up or provide a meal to help them defray the cost of hotels etc. Maybe if you posted on DST folks would volunteer to help - I know I would if I lived even remotely close instead of half the country away.
