Might I say GRRRRR and Ouch!

Posted by Heather Manning On December - 28 - 2007

My apartment complex just stinks when it comes to snow/ice removal.  I noticed the other day there was still chunks of ice in the parking lot from when we had our last ice storm.

So, today, it’s snowing.  I had to go to the DOT to get the plates done.  (Kari, we can only do 1 year at a time here.  Wish we could do 2!)  I go outside, I was stepping carefully, I guarantee you because they hadn’t really done much in the way of getting rid of the snow yet.  I went to step down off the curb to my car, and had to step in a pile of snow, that surprise surprise had a bunch of ice under it (we had no rain, no ice, just nice fluffy snow today).  My foot slipped out from underneath me, I let go of Kat’s hand, afraid I’d drag her down with me, grabbed Alyce with both of my hands so that she wouldn’t fly out of my arms, and twisted a little to land on my butt/hip.  Alyce was ok.  My butt and tail bone still hurt from the impact.

Ok, so I call the complex office.  I said, I realize that you have someone out here plowing right now, but needs more than plowed.  We need something to get rid of the ice under the snow.  Told them how I fell holding the baby, etc.  We come back from the DOT.  The sidewalks are clear (so I think) and the parking lot is still a mess.

Usually I just come in the sliding glass door, but when we got back from getting the plates, I took the sidewalk all the way around because it looked safer.  Silly me!  About half way to the front door, I took a step and my foot went out from underneath me.  Again, I grabbed onto Alyce and held on for dear life.  This time, I ended up on both knees.  Crying.  I screamed for the kids to come help me.  Jordan held Alyce while I pushed myself up on him.  My poor knee hurt so bad.  Well, they both did, but my left one a lot worse than the other.

I called the office again and this time I just went off.  There is about a 5 foot long section of ice about half way to the front door.  Well, we can’t do anything about that until after it stops melting because it will just wash the sand away.  Do I care???  Protect people first, when it washes away, put some more down.

I’m also now waiting on a call from my doctor.  I don’t think Alyce fell.  And she’s not screaming, but she’s just listless.  Whiny.  More so than normal.  And it’s not a normal whiny cry for her.  But it’s not her I’m really hurt cry too.  They are getting a nurse to see if our doctor can work us in just to double check her all over.  I’m ticked.

For her nap, she wouldn’t nurse, and usually she fights me to go down for a nap.  This time she just turned her head away from me and laid there.  I rubbed her back.  She just laid there for about 20 minutes not moving until she went to sleep.  I feel horrible.

I’ll post what her doctor says when I post later.

Aw, poor baby…..YOU and Alyce! I hope they get things squared away for you with the ice. The Bailey’s and coffee in your previous post sounds good for you, right now. Just amass a lot of candles on a table in front of you or something and pretend. :-)

OMG! Girl, I’d raise 7 shades of hell with the office about that ice. I understand Mother Nature happens, but when there’s still ice left from the LAST storm? Have they never heard of SNOW MELT? or ICE MELT? Or freakin ROCK SALT?! Girl, I hope ya’ll are OK. Hopefully it’s just Alyce’s teeth bothering her. Ya’ll are in my thoughts!! *huggles* Let me know what the Dr says!!!

Oh, I’m just now reading about this. How terrible for you both. I hope that you’re ok and the baby is just feeling the effects of the teething. Post something soon so we know you’re ok.
    Hugs!!!!
