Not Everyone's Mama

You know that saying God only gives us what we can handle?  And my saying is, he must have more faith in me than I do.  I was all set to blog about the results of my test that I got back yesterday, and I’m sure I will, but it’s not top priority right this second.

My brother in law’s grandmother died not that long ago.  Then Wednesday morning – or Tuesday – my days have all run together since I got sick, his dog that he’s had for 10 years died in the morning.  My sister was blaming herself cuz she didn’t take the dogs for a walk when Daisy was nudging her.  But, Pumpkin died of old age.  She has been in his (My BIL) mom’s garage wrapped in a sheet waiting to be cremated.  Then, I got sick.  My sister was here last night helping me.

This morning, my sister called to tell me that Justin’s dad and uncle (who is only 18 months older than Justin, they were raised like siblings) died in a car accident in Minnesota last night.  What is going on???  Why does all this keep happening?? 

They had taken someone up to Minnesota (I think Justin’s grandpa) to look at a classic car that he was wanting to buy.  They were going to go stay at an Uncles’ house.  Turned out the Uncle had cats.  Both Mike (his dad) and Cory (his uncle) are severely allergic to cats, so they went to stay at a cousin’s house.  Cory talked to Misty (his fiance) at 9:15 last night and everything was ok.  At 3 in the morning, a sheriff came across his brand new truck.  He said it had appeared to have rolled 3 times.  Both were dead on the scene.  But no one know why.  They don’t know if there was a hit and run or if a deer jumped out in front of them and they swerved and rolled, no idea.  And I don’t know if it was snowing up there?  We were supposed to get snow here yesterday, but didn’t, and Minnesota usually gets it before us.  Anyone know if it was snowing up there last night?  Anyway, at 4 in the morning, one of our Polk County Sheriff’s came and woke Teresa (Justin’s mom) up to tell her that her husband and brother in law had died. 

Justin’s 14 year old sister, Jade, keeps saying, whose going to walk me down the aisle (both of her brothers have recently been married so I’m sure it’s been on her mind) and was talking about how Cory was going to teach her how to drive next summer.  Misty is talking about how her and Cory were planning the wedding.  I just can’t believe this.  My BIL and my sister are putting their house up for sale and moving in with his mom because there is no way she can afford her house on her own.  I don’t know what to do.  If I wasn’t sick, better yet, if I didn’t have 2 little ones here with me, I’d go over there myself.  But, I can’t.  I feel so useless.  This is horrible.

Pumpkin isn’t going to be cremated anymore.  They are burying her in the casket with Justin’s dad.  Oh what to do.

So, now how do I eloquently go into my blood results?  I don’t think I can.  So, I’ll just dive right in I guess.  My nurse at the dr’s office called last night and said, Heather, you had quite the infection didn’t you?  She told me my white blood cell count in the hospital was 20,000. Normal is between 4600 and 8000 she said.  So, I was way up there.  Wednesday when I had it checked again it was 14600.  Still up there, but going the right direction.  I’m actually feeling a LOT better today.  Just really weak.  This will be the first day I’m left completely alone to take care of the kids.  *crossing fingers*

I was going to tell you all about having to call a lactation consultant too.  Most of you know I’m at 11 months nursing Alyce.  And I would like to go to 16 months at least which is as long as I went with Katiana.  Well, the dr at the ER told me there was no way I could nurse and take this medicine.  And that I didn’t have another option because I needed such a strong antibiotic because of how bad the infection was.  So, I called my breastfeeding expert, Blythe Evans.  LOL  She told me the same thing the lactation consultant told me.  But first, I called the pharmacy, and they said the same thing the dr said.  To pump and dump for 14 days.  Who says she’ll nurse again after 14 days????  So, I called a LC after I broke down into tears.  It really is an emotional thing.  Being forced to quit before you are emotionally ready.  She called me back with all of this nifty info.  She had a book written my a doctor who specializes in breastfeeding and pharmaceuticals.  With the Leviquin, it’s an L3 drug.  Which means moderatly safe.  But, this drug is being used more and more in pediatrics (which means babies are being given it.)  Mothers who have babies in the NICU are taking this medicine and nursing their babies who are in critical care.  The most common side effect is diahrea, and to avoid that, I need to nurse her first thing in the morning, then take my dose.  Then give her some baby food, maybe a bottle if she’s hungry.  Go about 4-5 hours without nursing with the medicine is at it’s highest concentration in your body.

So, for those of you who nurse, drs don’t always do the research needed in finding out whether you can nurse or not with a medication.  Whether they be to busy, or they really just don’t care about breastfeeding, but they don’t find out all the important information before they tell a mom to not nurse.

All right, there’s my public service announcement for today. 

Here’s some info on Kidney Infections from the Mayo Clinic.  The only symptom that I had until Sunday was a fever and back pain off and on.   Nothing that would have made me say, hmmm, I have a UTI.  Once I got the infection, I’ve had these symptoms:

• High fever – body temperature of 101 F (38.3 C) or greater  (mine has reached 105)
• Shaking chills
• Night sweats
• Extreme fatigue
• Nausea or vomiting
• Confusion

Plus I have had the loss of appetite.  Confusion was huge when my fever would get high.  Really confused.

Well, it seems that I am alive. Though it doesn’t quite feel that way. It’s been a long few days.

Sunday I started having some cramping in my stomach and had the urge to go the bathroom a lot, and I said to my mom that I had better not be pregnant again. LOL Or I had a UTI. I started drinking lots of cranberry juice in case it was a UTI.

Monday afternoon I started running a high fever. I called Pato and told him to get home to take care of the kids, because I didn’t think I was able to do it. I fought that fever the rest of the day and night. (It was 104 when I checked it on Monday before my thermometer decided not to work anymore.)

Tuesday, it was different. I had the high fever, and my joints all hurt so bad. And it was like I would come close to going unconscious – as close as you could get without going out all the way. Like, I could hear, but at times I couldn’t respond well, couldn’t move etc. I was begging for him to call an ambulance. He somehow convinced me to get in the car. Off to the ER we went. They determined that I have a raging kidney infection. Her technical term? You have a really REALLY bad kidney infection. She also said my white count was extremely high. So, they started me on fluids. That eased the joint pain a lot. They also gave me really strong antibiotics through the IV. Then they sent us off to the pharmacy where I just about had a heart attack.  My Leviquin (sp?) was $193.99 for 14 pills. Plus, the doctor told me that I couldn’t nurse while I was taking them. And that I really needed that strong of an antibiotic because of how sick I was. She couldn’t switch it. So, I got out the charge card and paid for them. Well, Pato did, we were at the drive through where he was answering the pharmacist and I was just like just tell her I don’t care, I just want to go home and go to bed.

We came home, and that night, I slept – ha ha at the word slept – I rested on the floor with my head on my bed sitting up with the fan pointing at me going full blast. I think the fever breaking is almost worse than it rising. I feel like I’m being cooked from the inside out.

Let me go back to a little funny story. They were getting ready to put a catheter in to drain me and to get a clean catch sample for my tests. I asked her if it hurt, cuz I’ve only had them done while giving birth to make room for the baby’s head. And you don’t really care at that point. And she said, well, if you were shaking like that for your IV, your not going to enjoy this. I wasn’t shaking out of fear of the IV you silly silly woman. I was had uncontrolable chills because my fever was going back up and they would only let me have a sheet. Though, you know how some people do an IV well, and others don’t? Had I know how badly it would hurt when this lady put it in, I would have been shaking out of fear. My goodness. They should have to test themselves putting one in on a doctor before they are allowed to put one in on the patient. Don’t you think? If it hurts to bad, they aren’t allowed to do IVs. LOL

Also during all this, I was trying to drink water. I’ve always been told lots of water. Lots of water wouldn’t stay down. It was coming out my nose. Yep, liked that visual don’t ya? It hurt too.

I woke up this morning after getting about 2 hours of sleep. (I finally got a cold wet washcloth and put it on my head, on my feet, on my boobs, everywhere I was hot, until I fell asleep) Anyways, my side of the bed was soaked. The fever broke again. Can you hear the chorus of angels? Hallelujah! And it hasn’t come back full force. I know that it comes back a little only because I keep taking tylenol and ibuprofin for pain, and when they kick in I start sweating really badly again.

Today is the first day I have felt up to even sitting in bed and turning on my computer. I think it will be a bit before I venture out to the living room to work on my desktop.

Now that the fever is gone (knock on wood), I’d really like the stiffness/pain in my neck and this constant headache to go away. Then maybe work on building up some strength again.

My mom took me to my doctor yesterday to recheck my white count. First, that was embarrassing. I took a shower before I left a) to break the fever b) so I wouldn’t smell like a person who had broken a fever 15 times. LOL So, my hair was wet, and my mom got me into a wheel chair, put the baby on my lap and my dad wheeled me in. I know I look bad right now, my face is all swollen, I can barely open my eyes, stringy wet hair, in a wheel chair. Everyone kept staring at me, and kids were even pointing at me. You could see their mom’s shushing them. I asked my mom (she’s on workman’s comp from my dr’s office so we know everyone) to ask Jamie if they could put me in a room so that everyone wasn’t looking at me. Then they called me back.

Took my blood, don’t know the results yet still. My doctor said, Heather, something like this festers for awhile. Have you had any signs of a UTI? Well, not before Sunday. What about fever, back ache? Aha! my loyal friends and blog readers, what did I have going on for a long time? A fever. I’m always fighting back pain, so I didn’t think anything of that. I said, I had a fever for a long time, but it wasn’t high, and my ear hurt, so I thought I was going back and forth with the kids. Turns out this thing has probably been festering for at least a month. Hindsite being 20/20 and all.

I don’t remember what all I’ve typed, so I hope I’ve covered everything but the lactation consultant, which I’ll leave for another post because I’m really getting tired again.

This is Blythe, posting for Heather. She’s really sick right now. Yesterday, she took herself to the ER and was diagnosed with a severe kidney infection. She is on meds and she sounds a hell of a lot better, so it seems like the meds are kicking in.

Heather says to tell you all that there will be no Humpday freebie this week. She’ll be offline for a few days, she’ll post as soon as she can… if not I will post another update for her.

Cuz I sure am.   I told Blythe I probably wasn’t going to blog about what happened, because I don’t want a lot of sympathy or anyone to feel sorry for me.  But, I’m going to do the condensed version because this is kind of my therapy.  When I blog and get it all out, it really helps me think about my situations that I might have and it helps to get it down.  I always feel a little better after I do.  Plus, I don’t have many girlfriends, and I cherish the ones I have, but when I blog, it’s like I’m having a big ol’ pow wow with a bunch of girlfriends.  Bouncing ideas, etc.  You guys don’t know how much help you’ve given me over the months.  How much just the support you provide for me means to me.

So, the condensed version.  Pato and I have been together 6 years.  I’ve kicked him out once.  It was when I was pregnant with Katiana.  I was actually on my way home from the hospital (they had told me to come back when I couldn’t walk, talk, or breathe any more.) when another woman called his cell phone.  I answered.  I threw him out.  Then after much talking, I decided we could have a fresh start.  I talked to that woman, and they had never gone out any where together.  (She said he gave her the impression that he wanted to.)  Had he actually gone out with her, I think I would have booted him for good, in my mind what he did was still cheating, but with a new baby, and how sorry he was, I forgave him.

In the mean time, I’ve had problems with trust with him.  Maybe I didn’t forgive him all that much.  I’ve never caught him being unfaithful again.  But, I catch him lying about stupid stuff (drinking with the guys after work), hiding things from me (sending big amounts of money to his parents in Mexico without discussing it with me, when we don’t have a lot extra for ourselves.), and not discussing big decisions with me (buying a $7000 car without even talking to me about it.)

So, Saturday, Jordan said, mom, I know something about Pato and he told me not to tell you or he’d kick my butt.  HUH?  I’ve reinforced with Jordan over the years, you never keep a secret from mom.  (Usually when someone tells a kid to keep a secret, it’s not a good thing.)  I could tell it was eating him up.  So, I said, you know Jordan, you don’t keep secrets from mom.  And you need to tell me.  But mom, I’ll get in trouble.  No, you won’t.  I’ll deal with Pato.  So, he went on to tell me how Pato had a new white car that he drove Jordan to school in on Friday.  Now, if he drove him to school on Friday in it.  That meant he had it on Thursday night.  Friday morning, we were in Walmart’s parking lot together and he didn’t say anything?  This makes me he’s hiding something from me again?  So, I called him, and without going into detail, he lied about what he said to Jordan, he wouldn’t tell me why he didn’t tell me about it.  Etc.  It was not a pretty conversation.  So, we’ve covered a lot of things here, telling Jordan to keep a secret from me.  Hiding things from me.  Lying, and making big decisions without me.

Anyone wonder why I have a problem with Jordan lying.  It ended up with me telling him, I’m done.  I can’t keep living like this.  Not being able to trust him.  I can’t do it.  It tears me up inside that I keep having to doubt everything that comes out of his mouth. 

So, he left.  And he didn’t come home Saturday night.  Last night, he came home.  I thought he was coming to talk about things.  Til I realized that he was DRUNK off of his butt.  I mean couldn’t stand up straight.  So, now we’re dealing with something else I don’t tolerate.  Drinking and driving.  Don’t do it, don’t like it when anyone else does it.  Lost a whole part of my family on Christmas Eve, 1982 because some stupid drunk driver got on the interstate going the wrong way.  She hit my Uncle’s car, killing My Uncle, My Aunt, my cousins Troy and Little Denny, and the 2 year old little girl Elizabeth that they were adopting.  Killed herself too.  The only one left in that family is my cousin Cory because he was driving himself to my grandparents that night.  So, I’m about as against drinking and driving as a person can get. 

So, he passed out on the floor, cuz I wasn’t about to tell him to leave when he was that drunk.  I couldn’t live with myself if he drove away and killed someone else.

Now we’re at today.  What do I do?  Do I tear my family apart – I’ve already done it once when I left Jordan’s dad, he was an abusive alcoholic.  Or do I try to talk to him again and give him ANOTHER chance.  I’m so – just confused.  I don’t know what to do.  The girls were asking for him all day yesterday.  Kat – “I want my daddy!” and Alyce “Da-eeyyy?” and pointing at the door.  Oh, I don’t know what to do.

On top of that, my kids were rather naughty all weekend.  All 3 of them.  I think they can feel something is going on.  It was a hard weekend.

Ok, enough going on and on about my problems.  That didn’t turn out to be such a short condensed version did it? 

On to happier stuff.  My grab bag is still available at PDW!  Woohoo!

And even though I’m not there anymore, I’d like to mention another birthday!  DSO turned one!  They are having a birthday celebration all week with lots of fun and savings!  So congrats to all the ladies over there!

If you read my post yesterday you know what a mad house it was at Walmart when I went to try to get my new laptop. And I told you my mom wanted one, but my dad said no. (Really, normally he doesn’t tell her what to do like that, but with her on workman’s comp, having to buy a new fridge – speaking of, did you know they made digital refrigerators now? Gonna have to watch theirs to see what it does. LOL – Then, my mom was driving down the interstate the other day and what looked like a semi’s hubcap flew across the interstate and hit her car. Thank god she wasn’t hurt, BUT $1000 + in damage to her new Saturn that she just got a few months ago. $500 deductable. All that adds up my dad saying no. If she had her full salary right now, she would have gotten it.) So, when I asked her about the laptop and if she was getting one, did she want me to stick one in my cart for her, etc, she sounded really really down.

I talked to my brothers and my sister and they all agreed that we should get it for mom (and dad LOL) as an early Christmas present if they had one left. So, I called Walmart. They had 1. “Can you hold it?” “How fast can you be here?” 10 minutes tops – now mind you, I was in comfy shorts and a tshirt – it’s 40 degrees here right now – the girls weren’t dressed and Walmart as 10 minutes away. LOL I flew getting the girls ready. Left myself how I was after he said he’d hold it for 30 minutes.

Got to Walmart, thought some lady was going to pop me. I got to the parking space first. She wasn’t even in the aisle when the car left. She just saw it and zoomed as I was turning into it. I ignored her giving me dirty looks, got the girls in a cart and RAN! LOL He had it waiting and said, wow, you got here faster than I thought. Next thing I know, here comes a lady who works there with the lady who was mad at me in the parking lot. The lady who works there said, is that the last computer? And he said, yes. And all snotty like she said, “Well SHE wanted to buy it.” Sweet ol’ man that he was, he said, “Well, she called and she got her first.”

On the way home, I called my mom about 16 times, she wasn’t answering, are you home? Are you in Des Moines? If your in Des Moines, call me. Stop by my house. She called, I told her to stop by, told her I had something for her. She said, you didn’t get that computer did you? I said, mom, I wouldn’t do that would I? I lied. She pointed it out. LOL She’s so happy. And my dad couldn’t believe it. When she got home, she couldn’t even play on line because my dad took the disc that I burned compuserve to for my mom’s laptop and started fiddling with their old desk top to get it to work again. Last I heard, still no go. And my mom was reading the book that came with her computer. LOL Then she was going to bed. She’s going to play today.

So, that was nice.

Guess what Pato said he’d get me for my birthday?  And because it’s on sale today only,  I get it early.  (My birthday is Dec 15 – his is Tuesday.  LOL  His present is in the closet.)

Those of you who love WalMart probably already know where I’m going with this.  LOL

At 8 a.m. this morning, I am going to be at my local WalMart buying this:

I’m not going to design on it unless see, we are out of the country.  LOL   (His family lives in Mexico, sometime I will be, and boy will I be happy that I have something to work with.  LOL)   And I was following this thread at DST, after reading all the responses, I begged and he said I can go this morning to get it. 

My mom asked why I want one.  I have my desktop.  And I said, cuz my desktop is not portable.  Which just made me think of crops, and people going to crops with their laptops.  Oh, wouldn’t that be fun!  Can’t exactly haul the big ol’ desk top to one.  LOL  My mom is going to talk to my dad about getting one.  Their computer AND their refrigerator both died within a couple of days of each other and well, my daddy thought that the refrigerator was more important to replace.  ROFL  He’s been shopping for a computer since then, but my dad is one of those go to 25 different place 5 different times to compare, talk to sales people, compare some more.  He will squeeze a penny so tight that it will scream for help.

Don’t we all wish I had learned that from him.  LOL

On that note, I’m excited to see the other “SECRET” In-Store specials.  LOL  I can’t spend that much money, but I can oooh and ahhhh, can’t I?  Pato is dropping Jordan off at school so that I can get up there by 8.  ROFL  Then he is meeting me at Walmart, someone tell him that no, he can not get a flat screen tv.  Not something we need, I know the minute he sees those he’s gonna beg.

Ok, I’m back with my computer.  But not without being shoved out of the way.  There was a line when I got there in the electronics department.  And I got there before 8.  They removed the ribbon and people went crazy trying to get to the High Definition DVD players on sale.  I couldn’t even get to the computers.  And I was scared to leave my cart even a foot away from me because I am always scared someone will snatch the girls.  So, I politely said excuse me, got pushed a couple of times and my computer is now setting up in the bedroom.  LOL  Woohoo!  People were going crazy trying to get to those DVD players though.  Throwing their allotted 2 in their cart.

I grabbed a wireless router too.  But, I didn’t know if I needed something for my desk top?  And they are no help at WalMart at all.  I said, do I need this wireless adapter for my laptop?  I don’t know.  You could buy it and bring it back?  I said, how bout I just go home and check and see if it works and I’ll come back if I need it.  LOL

So, that was my morning!  Remember the specials at PDW this weekend!

I’m all excited!  Well, first I’m keeping my blog store, so those of you who like that format can still shop there!  But, I’ve noticed a lot of people like the big store formats or have problems with the blog store and for you guys I can now be found at Plain Digital Wrapper!

I’m so happy to be there.  Great group of designers!  Wonderful management!  AND I can do specials over there easier!  LOL  So, this weekend all of my specials for Digiscrapping Day will be over there.  In fact, all of my products – including commercial use are on sale right now over there!  And there are lots of fun things to be had this weekend!

I’ll go into that in a second.  I have to update you on the bus situation.  I’m back to driving Jordan to school again.  Could anyone else just scream?????  I told you that I talked to the head of the busses, she was going to talk to his driver nonchalantly etc.  Nonchalant my tush  -  that’s what I have to say.  I forgot to tell you all what the bus driver said to Jordan Tuesday when he got on after school.  After I called his teacher and told her to have him ride the bus home, I had taken care of the problems, the bus driver turned me into a liar.

He got on the bus, she made him sit in an assigned seat (which he still doesn’t understand what for.) and in front of everyone – man, you should have heard the tone Jordan implied when he told me.  Snotty, yet harsh, “JORDAN!  Why did you tell your mom to call Jerri to tell her you hate me?”  He said she was kinda yelling, and she was mad.  Jordan said, “What do you mean?”  WHY — DID –  YOU –  you get the point – have your mom call Jerry and tell her you hate me?”  Jordan said, “I don’t know what you are talking about, I didn’t.”  (And he didn’t, and I didn’t say that to Jerri, thank you oh so much.)  “Well, somebody did.”  Jordan is getting tired of it.  I’ve never heard him say this. ”Mom, all the way home, it got to where I just heard, blah blah blah, cuz she just kept saying it.”  The blah blah blah part is where I’m torn, cuz I want to say, Jordan that’s rude.  But part of me understands where he is coming from.  If someone is yelling at you for a 30 minutes ride home, that’s probably what it started to sound like.  He was mortified though to have her go on and on like that in front of the other kids.

When he got home and told me I was so mad.  So, I got on my phone – probably used up most of my cell phone minutes that I had left for the month (we only use the cell phones, no house phone here).  The line was busy.  So, I kept hitting redial.  After about 20 minutes, I got through to the ANSWERING MACHINE.  GRRRR.  It led me to Jerri’s cell phone.  Which I called, and got the voice mail on.  Um, I haven’t heard a call back from her, I’m assuming she doesn’t want to admit to the fact that she brought Jordan’s name into it.

My message said, “Jerri, in our conversation this morning, we both agreed it would be best for Jordan’s sake if you nonchalantly brought all of this up with his driver.  So it wouldn’t be taken out on him if she was angry.  When my son got on this bus tonight, this is what was said to him.”  And I went into that whole thing.  Then I said, “I cannot believe that an adult would call a child out like that in front of a lot of other children.  My son was mortified.  He didn’t even know what she was talking about as he didn’t know I was calling you, and he NEVER, nor did I say that he hated her.  I said, he doesn’t want to ride the bus any more.  From what I’ve heard over the past 2 weeks of dealing with this incident from other children who ride the bus – she has no business driving a bus full of children.  You can call me back at ” and I left my number.

Yesterday, no response.  So, yesterday afternoon, I called and left a message for the assistant principal to call me back.  I kind of went into a little detail as to why I was calling and that I needed some advice on what direction to take from here.  That was at the end of the school day, so today, I am waiting for a call back from her.

I swear I’m not lazy.  In the mornings, it’s fine, it’s great, it’s easy to take him to school.  Pato is home with the girls.  But in the afternoon, it’s so much harder.  It’s getting to be really cold here in Iowa.  So, I have to bundle both of the girls up in their winter coats – which Alyce HATES! and get them both out to the car, into their car seats (which Alyce HATES!) for a 10 minute ride to the school and back (it’s 10 minutes all together plus waiting for Jordan to get to the car.)  It’s the fight with Alyce over her coat and her car seat and listening to her scream all the way there (It takes her a few minutes to resign herself to the fact that she is going to be in her car seat.)  that I hate.  And there is a bus that would pick him up and drop him off right in front of our front door.  Yet he can’t use it because they have someone who doesn’t really like kids driving the bus.  Can you tell I’m irritated?  LOL

I joined the store just in time to be part of the fun!  I’m all atwitter I think was what I said yesterday.  ROFL  No, I really am excited though!  I’m also looking forward to meeting some new folks!  I know Sarah Grimwood already and it’ll be fun to work with her.  And I’ve been a fan of ACMDesignz commercial use overlays for quite awhile.  I know I’ve seen the rest of the designers out and about at DST, but I don’t really know them.  So, how fun!  Everyone sing the song - is it from when I was in Brownies?  I think it is – “Make new friends, but keep the old, one is silver and the other gold!”  LOL  I’m a wee bit on the goofy side this morning.  I think I turned off my computer and went to bed too early last night.  (8:30)  My body is used to going to bed at 2 and getting up at 7, so it’s feeling a little crazy this morning I think.  LOL
