Thank You!

Posted by Heather On September - 20 - 2007

To everyone who left me advice about the soccer situation yesterday.  I emailed the coach and he is on top of it.

Turns out Jordan didn’t tell me that the coach talked to the boys about this AFTER practice on Tuesday.  And I remember watching them after practice when they got into a group and he was talking to them.  I thought he was talking about the next game, because I couldn’t hear what was going on.  I think Jordan was just upset and zeroed in on the parts that upset him.

He sent an email out to all of us (parents) to tell us what would be going on.  Attached to the email was the good sportsmanship waiver we all signed (parents and kids) and he said that if anyone continued to behave the way that people were behaving that they would be pulled from the game or not allowed to play in the next game if it happens at practice.  So, here’s hoping that people stop picking on Jordan and that he gets back to loving soccer!

I emailed him back and told him thank you.  And then told him how frustrated I was with the fact the kids couldn’t understand nor did they need to know the problems Jordan is having with his weight.  That’s a big contributing factor to why he is not a very fast runner.  I actually left a message with his doctor yesterday and am waiting on a return call because I want an appointment scheduled with the appropriate amount of a time for a full physical.  Something is wrong, and I can’t fix it on my own.

Those of you who follow my blog know that I took Jordan off of his ritalin at the end of kindergarten (he was 7 – Jordan went to preK when he was 5, started kindergarten when he was 6).  Starting at 9 months he really started putting on weight, and by 3 he weighed 68 pounds.  (Katiana weighs 31 lbs at 3 now.)  At 5, he was having some seriously problems with ADHD and his doctor put him on ritalin.  When I took him off of it at 7, he weighed 56 pounds and was a lot taller than he was at 3.  He was so skinny his hip bones were bruising his skin.  I couldn’t get him to eat.  Plus, he was on another pill (clonadine) to go to sleep.  He was on an up and down cycle for 2 years.  With him losing weight like he did, I finally stopped blindly listening to the doctor and started doing my own research into ritalin and what I found was enough for me to make the decision to take him off of it.  The risks involved with that pill outweighed the benefits and his up and down mood swings were too much for me to handle.  (The school got all of his ‘good’ hours.)

Jordan now weighs at least 93 lbs.  (before school started)  We are now not even a full month into the school year and his new pants that I got him a week before school started are getting tight.  Yet he is about 300% more active than he was all summer.  He is playing outside at recess, participating in PE (they ran a 1/2 mile the other day), playing outside all night after school, AND running around the building at night to try to get faster.  (He’s so cute when he does it too.)  On top of that, I don’t let him eat breakfast at home, because if he does, he ends up getting breakfast at school too, even though I tell him not to.  So, he’s not allowed to eat here before he leaves.  That sounds mean doesn’t it?  But really, it’s not, he doesn’t need two full breakfasts each day.  He eats lunch at school, and I follow that menu to make sure I know what he’s getting, and a lot of the time, he chooses salads.  For snack at school, I send one of those little hundred calorie packs that they have put out of something or he gets a baggie with a few reduced fat crackers.

If I let the kids have a snack when he gets home (depending on how much time there is between 4 and when I make supper) they get a low fat pudding cup, or an apple, or something.  I don’t keep a lot of sweets in the house because both of my kids sneak into the fridge when I’m not looking.  For supper, I dish out his food.  He could eat as much as Pato or I, and he’s 8.  So, I get his food, and I put enough on there that he’s got a nice meal, and no seconds.   If we go out to eat to a fast food place, which is rare anymore, he gets salad (he LOVES salad).  And not one of the salads that have as much fat as the big ol’ greasy hamburgers, but a side salad, with lettuce, carrots, tomatos, etc, and light ranch.   If he’s still hungry afterwards, (those aren’t that big) I don’t care if he has a second one.  Veggies are good right?   So, with all of that, why is he still gaining?  He should be losing a little.  And that is why I am waiting for his doctor to call me back.  That is also another reason why I am scared to death to let him quit soccer, he needs that exercise.  It’s getting to the point where he is breathing heavy putting his clothes and shoes on.  That scares me.

My kids are such opposites it’s weird.  Jordan is from my first marriage, and my ex husband is short and skinny.  I mean he probably weighs 140 sopping weight.  Pato is not a small man.  He’s 6’2″ and weighs about 230.

Jordan is short and fights his weight.  Katiana is tall and skinny.  (She put on a pair of 12-18 month pants the other day that I got Alyce out to be funny and they fit around.  LOL)  At 3, she uses a 4 or 5 in length, but needs about 2T or 3T around.  We use a belt a lot on her.  And she comes up to Jordan’s chest already.  Now, Alyce, she was a chubby little baby.  But since she’s been mobile, she’s getting long and skinny too.  I am about average, but on the shorter side of it.  LOL  5’4″ and I never had a problem with my weight until I had kids.  Now, I am struggling to get back down to where I was before I had Katiana.

I will keep you updated on what the doctor recommends for my little man.  I hope that he can help.  Speaking of little man, he’s going to be mighty upset with me in an hour.  I need to wake him up at 7 and he didn’t go to bed until after 11.  Normally, he goes at 8:30.  But, we went out to eat last night at 6.  Then we went to Target and got the girls some new shoes.  (Kat’s not only tall, but she’s wearing an 8 1/2 now.  Her tennis shoes were a 7, and there was no hope in getting her feet in them I noticed after I put away the flip flops yesterday and pulled out her tennis shoes from last fall.  She wore her snow boots to Target.  LOL)  Then, he dilly dallied on his homework, whined, cried, he didn’t want to do it, finally got it done an hour later, and went to bed.

We got Alyce a pair that looks like this minus the kitty.  Her’s have a big ol’ daisy where the kitty is, same color though.  (I just can’t find the pair we got her online)

But, online I saw these

and these

and I love them.  I want them.  LOL  She fell asleep with just her shoes and a diaper on last night.  She kept grabbing her feet and looking at once of us smiling and jibber jabbering, I think she liked them.  AND they are only $12.99, take that Robeez!  LOL

Then Kat got these

Because they didn’t have the Dora ones she wanted in her size, and I said she had to get tennis shoes, not dress shoes, because it’s getting colder and she has to have her feet covered.  So, she supposed she’d suffer through with the Disney Princess ones.  She had to wear them out of the store, and when I was buckling her in, she said, “Mom, I’m so excited!  I got new shoes!”  You like your shoes huh?  LOL

Well, I’ve written a book again this morning, so I’ll sign off and get to work before Bunny gives me 50 lashes.

Have a great Thursday!

It’s Wednesday!

Posted by Heather On September - 19 - 2007

And you know what that means!  Freebie day!  I’ll get to that down below!

I have a decision to make and I’m not sure exactly what I’m going to do.  Jordan had soccer practice again last night and it didn’t go well.  He was in tears all the way home.  Not his “whiny I didn’t get my way” tears, but his “my heart is broken” tears.

Every game, every practice, at least one of the boys has to tell him that he’s the worst player on the team.  Or that it’s his fault they lost.  Now, I know Jordan isn’t the fastest runner, but he is really good at goalie.  But, he can’t play that position all the time at this age.  They switch up, most of the time he plays goalie, but other times he is a forward.  And at practice, they practice all of it.  Well, last night one of the boys told him he was the worst player again, no one would pass to him, and one of the boys was constantly telling him to shut up.  He told me he tried to tell the coach, but that he got yelled at.  Now, I was in the car with the girls because Alyce was sleeping, but even if I was outside, the field is so big, I can never hear what is going on.  So, I don’t know what led up to the coach yelling at him, but it had something to do with respecting him.  I don’t know if Jordan even got a chance to tell him what was going on.

He was also upset because twice he landed on his foot wrong, and he fell, and another little boy stepped on his leg.  Same boy, same thing, twice.  And when he fell everyone was yelling at him to get up, get up Jordan, come on!  But, when another boy fell and his hand was stepped on, everyone wanted to know if he was ok.  That turned into, nobody cares mom, coach doesn’t care, my teammates don’t care, and you don’t care.  What makes you say I don’t care?  You just don’t care.

Jordan wants to quit.  Which breaks my heart.  He loves soccer.  He’s 8 1/2 and he’s been playing since right after he turned 5.

So, do I let him quit?  And then sign him up for indoor soccer in the winter?  If I sign him up for outdoor again in the spring, he’ll most likely be on the same team, with the same players, they try to keep it together year after year, you can’t request a team.

Or, do I talk to the coach, hoping he’s receptive and that he doesn’t see me as a whining mom thinking everyone is unfair to her kid?  And if it doesn’t stop, that’s just killing his love for it even more.  What do you do?  What would you do?

On to a funnier note, look at these pictures?  Someone (Katiana) left her little strawberry twinkie like thing down where the baby could reach it:

See those pieces on the floor behind her?  She dragged it all over.

Ok, so I gave her a bath.  Then we had lunch.  I didn’t realize that Kat hadn’t thrown her tray away (we had tv dinners for lunch yesterday) and that it was on the edge of the table.  I went outside to talk to my neighbor on my porch, left my screen door open, like I always do, so the girls can come out if they want to, and look what crawled out to me – this is about an hour after her bath:

Oh boy did she like that chocolate pudding!  And before she crawled out to me, she went over to my couch and smeared it all over the couch.  I had some cleaning up yesterday.

So, in honor of dirt and spilled things, here is your freebie for today.

Someone spilled my coffee on your notepaper.  Oh no!  But, I managed to save one before they did.  So there are 2 papers, one with the stain, one without!

Remember to send your friends to my blog to download the freebie.  Don’t give them the direct download link.

If you like it and download it, leave me a comment and let me know what you think of it!  I love to hear from you all!

Look What I Made

Posted by Heather On September - 18 - 2007

I’ve been determined to do this since Connie had an article up at DigiScrap Info, but I just found a site that I could figure out.  or I just had the patience to figure it out.  One of the two.  I bought 3 domains –

http://digiscrapping.net – used to point to my blog, it’s redirected now to point to the new page, but it isn’t showing yet.  They said it could take up to 48 hours.

http://digiscrapping.org

http://digiscrapping.info

Any of those will take you to the new thing I made.  But, you could follow this link too:  My Wiki.  So, if you have my blog bookmarked and want to point it to that, I’d love you!  Just because I spent so much time on it.

Wait til you guys see my new kit that has me saying, “What was  I thinking?”  LOL  It started out as a paper pack and one of my CTs said I should make it into a kit.  I’ve never done a whole kit like this one, so, it’s taking me awhile.

In the meantime in between time, I need to get to work on DSO’s Mega for next month and I need to do the DSO Fairies kit.  Someone crack the whip!

Kristine didn’t think the rest of us humpday hunnies would notice the freebie she has on her blog today!  LOL  She’s so naughty!  Ok, we’ll let it slide since she just had mouth surgery.  Kristine, reading your blog made me say, ewwwww too.  LOL

And she reminded me to tell you that Joy and Lynn have become exclusive to DSO!  Woohoo!  Kim did too, but I told ya to check out her blog for a secret when she told us!  Lynn, I hope you’re enjoying your vacation!

Kim has also got a neat-o tutorial and a freebie over at SYAO!  It’s perty as always Kim!

That’s it from me!

Have a great Tuesday!

Wish I Could Find The Article

Posted by Heather On September - 17 - 2007

I went to my parents’ house yesterday and on the counter I found the neatest article from Portico magazine about my cousin, Mike Randolph.  If you get that magazine, and I think it’s just a small publication, it is so neat.  Made my mom and I cry.  It’s him recalling the events of 9/11 6 years later.  When I posted about what had happened to him, I posted he was on the 62nd floor, but he was on the 63rd floor of the second tower the day it was hit.  One thing I had forgotten was that as they were leaving the building after the first tower was struck, a security guard told them that the building was secured and to go back up.  But, thank God the head of security for the company he was with at the time ordered them to evacuate.  I don’t remember what floor he was at when the plane hit, I want to say the 18th, but he was still in the building when it was struck.  They got out, turned around, and watched the building fall.

He is a wonderful man, someone I have looked up to my whole life.  One of the funniest people you will ever meet, and kind of ornery to go with it.  LOL  He’s just someone that I am proud to know, and even prouder to have in my family.

I know sometimes Mike’s wife reads my blog, so if you read this today, I read the article and I love you guys!

Jordan had a soccer game Saturday and a game yesterday.  I forgot my camera both games.  And I’m kicking myself for forgetting it yesterday.  He played so hard.  I was so proud of him!  He wore Pato’s goalie jersey.  LOL  It hung to his knees, but he wanted to wear it the whole time he was in as goalie.

He only let 2 balls get by him.  The first one was on a corner kick, and it went probably 3 feet over his head.  There was no way.  It was just an excellent shot!  (Kudos to the other team and their fine corner kicker LOL)  The next one, was just a fluke, it’s like his hands had a hole in them and it rolled through.  Other than those 2, he was blocking goals left and right.  And one of the dad’s next time said, he has got one good drop kick on him.  I know, I know!  Beaming with pride.  LOL  Jordan has been waiting his whole life to play goalie.  :o )  Most of the other goalies when they get the ball they pick it up and throw it to someone.  Not my son, he is like get back, get back.   Then boots it half way up the field.  Woohoo Jordan!  I think they lost, but I don’t care.  Jordan played hard and played with heart, and that’s all that matters!

Blog Rush is a brand new widget to add to your blogs to help bring in traffic.  Now, I need to figure out how to do it with word press as it doesn’t allow java script.  Pbbblllttt word press.  :o )

All righty!  I opened my bag Friday to show you what was in it.  But, if you didn’t grab it.  Everything is in the store now.

Candy Apples  (Includes 4 bonus pattern papers not shown here)

Glitzy Glam Doodles

Grungy Graphs – Bold

Grungy Graphs – Pastels

Polk A Dot-Y Alpha

Those were the 5 things!  I hope those of you who bought the bag enjoyed it!  We’re still trying to decide if we are going to do a store wide bag bonanza next month.   Would you like to see us do it again?

Have a great Monday!

Remember I said, Brrr, it’s cold?

Posted by Heather On September - 15 - 2007

I spoke to soon.  I was cold when it was in the 50′s.  LOL  Look at what it says it is right now!

That’s at 7:53 a.m.  It was colder than that when I got up at 3:30 with a headache and someone had left the window open in Katiana’s room.

Welcome to weather in Iowa!  Blink, it’ll be 90 degrees again.

I want to say thank you to Monique who did something so sweet for me yesterday!  Thank you!!!!

So, it’s going to be 64 today, as you can see above.  LOL  Jordan’s got a soccer game.  I told Pato to stop and get Alyce some sleepers, tights, etc last night because she’s outgrown the size that I had for her.  That way I would have something to put her in til we went out to the garage and got out Kat’s baby clothes in her size.  (Pato has them buried, otherwise I’d just go out and get them.)  He came home with slippers and socks.  Now, I realize that he speaks spanish, I speak English, and usually if one of us doesn’t understand something, we go to the other language (we both speak both languages to each other, but he talks to me in Spanish mostly, I use English usually.)  I guess I should have said PAJAMAS.  LOL  But, the slippers are awfully cute.  They are like fake robeez, walmarts version.  LOL  They are fuzzy and pink, and have a little crown on the top with sparkles.  I’m sure she’ll love them.  To eat them at least.  LOL  And I’m willing to try the socks – if you read yesterday’s post, you know why I don’t put socks on her.  I haven’t opened them up yet to see what the elastic feels like on the top.  We’ll see.  I’d rather her wear tights right now.  Oh well.

Kleene made a cute layout using my Summer Breeze Kit!  I love her blending on this!

Want a BIG peak at my bag?  I’m gonna open it up for you!  Last day to grab the bag and here is what is in it!  If you like even one thing, I would suggest getting it because each item is going to be more than the bag costs at regular price!

Like it?  Grab the bag before it closes!  Today is the last day!

And don’t forget to check out my Dirty Stars Paper Pack!  You will find a sample up at Scrap Your Art Out in yesterday’s post!

Have a great Saturday!

Brrr it’s getting cold!

Posted by Heather On September - 14 - 2007

Jordan had a scrimmage last night.  And I sat here too long yesterday working and cut myself close with time.  But, I got the girls dressed in long sleeves because I thought surely the temperature will go down later.  (It was in the upper 70′s when I had been outside earlier.)  Now, Alyce didn’t have socks on because I can’t find any that aren’t too tight.  I put a pair of normal socks on her back in April.  They didn’t feel to tight, and when I took them off of her it looked like the elastic band had burst blood vessels all the way around her leg – both sides.  And it scarred like that.  So, I don’t put socks on her because I’m scared another innocent looking pair of socks will hurt her poor skin again.  I need to get her a pair of Robeez.  Katiana had a pair, and I loved them!

But, I go off topic again, LOL.  I was in shorts and a t-shirt still.  We get in the car at 5:30, the place we are going to is only about 7 minutes away, scrimmage starts at 6 – plenty of time for warming up.  Yep, not.  There was a car accident on Highway 6.  We went about 2 mph all the way there.  Pulled in at 5:58.  I yelled at Jordan, go, grab your ball, your water bottle and go!  So, he gets out, starts looking for his team (we’re scrimmaging on a different field than we normal practice on).  I got the double stroller out, loaded up the girls, noticed I was freezing.  Wrapped them in blankets.  It had to have dropped 20 degrees from a couple of hours earlier.  Could have used a sweat shirt and something on my daughters’ feet and heads.

We’re walking up and down, and there is no sign of his team.  I was getting mad.  I was on the phone with Bunny, going off about it, and I was ready to go home.  I said, we’re going up and down one more time, then we are going home.  Turned around, and saw one of his teammates.  I said, where is everyone?  The mom said, it doesn’t start until 6:30.  What?  I read my email when I got home, and um, she was right.  I was wrong.  So, I rushed and froze for an extra half an hour because of my own problem with reading too fast.

So, coach gets there, the other team gets there, we look around – there’s not an empty field in site.  They decide we’re going to hold off until 7 to start.  I was freezing, in my inappropriate for the weather shorts and shirt.

I told his coach, if we’re waiting til 7, I’m running and getting my kids something to eat.  I didn’t feed them before hand because I thought we’d be home by 7.  We normally eat at 6:30, and I didn’t want to have supper ready at 4:30 when I thought we had to leave by 5:15 or 5:30.  Jordan would have been starving after practice anyway.  So, I ran to Wendy’s.  We ate in the car watching the scrimmage.  Then Kat wants to swing at the park across from the fields.  I took the girls, wrapped up in blankets still, and let them swing til he was done.  Swear people, I thought my legs were going to fall off my body I was so cold when it was over.

I forget that every year, the temperature tends to drop when school starts.  I remember in high school, wearing my cheerleading uniform without tights during the day, and at night having to pile on tights, leggings, gloves, turtlenecks to cheer at a game.  Had I had a sweatshirt and jeans on last night, I would have been enjoying the 60 degree temp.

We made it home, nobody has pneumonia, it’s all good!

What was that saying when we were younger, God made dirt and dirt don’t hurt!  So here you go!

I’ve got a new dirty paper pack out.  It’s called Dirty Stars!  (Look at the monkey)

Do you like it dirty?  Do you like it grungy?  Well, these papers are so dirty, I had to cover the monkey’s eyes!  Poor little thing just can’t handle it!  Grungy Dirty starry papers to scrap your heart out with!  Use them as your main paper or layer them under a plain paper with a tear letting the dirty stars peak through!  Lots of fun to be had with this paper pack!

And another sneak peak at my grab bag!

hmmm, what could that be?   ROFL

You can grab my bag here!

Watch your cell phone bill and some CT stuff!

Posted by Heather On September - 13 - 2007

I have to do a PSA for those of us who after having our phones for so long, just pay the bill without going over it with a fine tooth comb.

I’ve had my same bill for 2 years +.  Now, when we renewed our contract, we had tons of problems with Sprint customer service.  It took forever for them to get me a new phone when the battery in my first razr went out, then they didn’t send the return pack to send the first one back, were double charging me for the phone, etc. etc.  Not kidding, it took 3 months for me to get someone to fix it.

So, that was just fixed about 2 months ago or so?  Finally!  Now, I’ve been going over my minutes a lot lately.  Which is not unusual, I tend to be chatty.  But, this month, I’ve been trying to be careful because I went over them so much last month.  And I went to check my account and it said I was over by 42 minutes, and the cycle doesn’t end until the 18th.  What?  So, I really started going over my last bill.  (I can’t see the numbers I called this month until the cycle ends.)

I was seeing charges on calls after 6 – in fact, they were after 7.  Which all of the plans that I looked at had free nights and weekends starting at 7.  And I pay $10/month to have it start at 6.  Because I can go over my minutes so easily, to me that’s just a safe guard.  LOL

So, I call, and the first time got someone who was absolutely wonderful!  A shock lately when it comes to sprints customer service.  I only waited about 2 minutes (The average lately for me is about 20 minutes).  And she looked it up and right away saw that someone had canceled my free after 6 thing back in May.  Now, I’m careful all day about calling people just for nothing (Ya know 500 anytime minutes goes by fast for me), but at 6 – all bets are off and I use my phone whenever I want to.

I have had a $106 in overage charges since the June Bill.  So, she credited that.   Too bad I had just paid my phone bill before I realized there was a problem.  So, that’ll come off of next month’s bill.  Then she gave me 50 minutes to cover the 42 I have gone over this month and another 50 to last til the 18th.  So, it’s taken care of, but if I would have watched my bill rather than just glancing at the amount due and the minutes we have used, it wouldn’t have happened.

So, there is your public service announcement for the day!  LOL

I’ve got some pretty creative team layouts to show you today!  Look for the sneak peaks of my grab bag in some of the layouts!

Marilyn always takes the prettiest pictures of nature and finds a beautiful way to show them off that isn’t in your square format.  I think her layouts are so neat!  Here’s one she did using the Notes and Frayed String Doodles.  (The fence is not mine)

Here’s one from Jamie – shhhh!  she’s using stuff from my grab bag!  LOL

Miss Mix It Up Kerry!  She has used some stuff from my grab bag in this preview also!  She has also used my soon to be released Paper Pack Dirty Stars, and Fancy Folded Flowers, and a few blog freebies!

This is from Claire.  She has used Jordan’s Sandy Beach and Fancy Folded Flowers.  (There are some things from other designers on here too)

And this is from Stephanie!  She used my Splash of Melon Kit.  Isn’t she a cute baby?

Thank you to my creative team for just being so wonderful!

Have a great Thursday!

It’s Wednesday and you know what that means!  It’s time for a freebie!  I’ll get to that in a little bit!

I didn’t think about it, but I’m going to go kaboodle all the beautiful stuff I saw on Scrap Praise.  There are quite a few, I want that things over there.  LOL

Ready for another hint on my grab bag?  It’s not an image today!  I’m going to tell you that there is a mini, smaller, full size kit in there!  Check out my store to see what is normally in a full size kit for me!  Because that’s the size you will be getting!  This kit is one that you can use to scrap anybody.  Boys, Girls, Men, Women, I think I could even do a heritage layout with it.  It’s bold, yet rich colors!

I know I’ve got a lot of freebie hunters coming here today (which isn’t bad, I too started out as a freebie hunter!).  But, may I say, if you like the designer that you are getting freebies from, a grab bag is just about as good as free!  May I suggest that you check out the designer you are buying a grab bag from, look at their other products.  I have been burned by a few, but I’ve also gotten some SWEET stuff in grab bags before that had a paid full price, I would have spent a lot of money!  Someone whose grab bag always rocks?  Micheline Martin.  If you like Micheline’s style, I guarantee that you won’t be disappointed in one of her grab bags!

These papers were made using my Just Bag It – Combo Pack and Kim B’s Age It Quick.  2 folded, old, dirty paper bags.  Who knew you’d want to make a memory with them!  LOL

Don’t give your friends the direct download link, send them to my blog to get the goodie themselves!

And if you download it, let me know what you think!

Don’t forget to check out the other Humpday Hunnies!  Kristine, Bunny, Joy, Lynn, Teriann, Sondra, and Mel - wonder what they have to offer today?

Have a great Wednesday!
