To everyone who left me advice about the soccer situation yesterday. I emailed the coach and he is on top of it.
Turns out Jordan didn’t tell me that the coach talked to the boys about this AFTER practice on Tuesday. And I remember watching them after practice when they got into a group and he was talking to them. I thought he was talking about the next game, because I couldn’t hear what was going on. I think Jordan was just upset and zeroed in on the parts that upset him.
He sent an email out to all of us (parents) to tell us what would be going on. Attached to the email was the good sportsmanship waiver we all signed (parents and kids) and he said that if anyone continued to behave the way that people were behaving that they would be pulled from the game or not allowed to play in the next game if it happens at practice. So, here’s hoping that people stop picking on Jordan and that he gets back to loving soccer!
I emailed him back and told him thank you. And then told him how frustrated I was with the fact the kids couldn’t understand nor did they need to know the problems Jordan is having with his weight. That’s a big contributing factor to why he is not a very fast runner. I actually left a message with his doctor yesterday and am waiting on a return call because I want an appointment scheduled with the appropriate amount of a time for a full physical. Something is wrong, and I can’t fix it on my own.
Those of you who follow my blog know that I took Jordan off of his ritalin at the end of kindergarten (he was 7 – Jordan went to preK when he was 5, started kindergarten when he was 6). Starting at 9 months he really started putting on weight, and by 3 he weighed 68 pounds. (Katiana weighs 31 lbs at 3 now.) At 5, he was having some seriously problems with ADHD and his doctor put him on ritalin. When I took him off of it at 7, he weighed 56 pounds and was a lot taller than he was at 3. He was so skinny his hip bones were bruising his skin. I couldn’t get him to eat. Plus, he was on another pill (clonadine) to go to sleep. He was on an up and down cycle for 2 years. With him losing weight like he did, I finally stopped blindly listening to the doctor and started doing my own research into ritalin and what I found was enough for me to make the decision to take him off of it. The risks involved with that pill outweighed the benefits and his up and down mood swings were too much for me to handle. (The school got all of his ‘good’ hours.)
Jordan now weighs at least 93 lbs. (before school started) We are now not even a full month into the school year and his new pants that I got him a week before school started are getting tight. Yet he is about 300% more active than he was all summer. He is playing outside at recess, participating in PE (they ran a 1/2 mile the other day), playing outside all night after school, AND running around the building at night to try to get faster. (He’s so cute when he does it too.) On top of that, I don’t let him eat breakfast at home, because if he does, he ends up getting breakfast at school too, even though I tell him not to. So, he’s not allowed to eat here before he leaves. That sounds mean doesn’t it? But really, it’s not, he doesn’t need two full breakfasts each day. He eats lunch at school, and I follow that menu to make sure I know what he’s getting, and a lot of the time, he chooses salads. For snack at school, I send one of those little hundred calorie packs that they have put out of something or he gets a baggie with a few reduced fat crackers.
If I let the kids have a snack when he gets home (depending on how much time there is between 4 and when I make supper) they get a low fat pudding cup, or an apple, or something. I don’t keep a lot of sweets in the house because both of my kids sneak into the fridge when I’m not looking. For supper, I dish out his food. He could eat as much as Pato or I, and he’s 8. So, I get his food, and I put enough on there that he’s got a nice meal, and no seconds. If we go out to eat to a fast food place, which is rare anymore, he gets salad (he LOVES salad). And not one of the salads that have as much fat as the big ol’ greasy hamburgers, but a side salad, with lettuce, carrots, tomatos, etc, and light ranch. If he’s still hungry afterwards, (those aren’t that big) I don’t care if he has a second one. Veggies are good right? So, with all of that, why is he still gaining? He should be losing a little. And that is why I am waiting for his doctor to call me back. That is also another reason why I am scared to death to let him quit soccer, he needs that exercise. It’s getting to the point where he is breathing heavy putting his clothes and shoes on. That scares me.
My kids are such opposites it’s weird. Jordan is from my first marriage, and my ex husband is short and skinny. I mean he probably weighs 140 sopping weight. Pato is not a small man. He’s 6’2″ and weighs about 230.
Jordan is short and fights his weight. Katiana is tall and skinny. (She put on a pair of 12-18 month pants the other day that I got Alyce out to be funny and they fit around. LOL) At 3, she uses a 4 or 5 in length, but needs about 2T or 3T around. We use a belt a lot on her. And she comes up to Jordan’s chest already. Now, Alyce, she was a chubby little baby. But since she’s been mobile, she’s getting long and skinny too. I am about average, but on the shorter side of it. LOL 5’4″ and I never had a problem with my weight until I had kids. Now, I am struggling to get back down to where I was before I had Katiana.
I will keep you updated on what the doctor recommends for my little man. I hope that he can help. Speaking of little man, he’s going to be mighty upset with me in an hour. I need to wake him up at 7 and he didn’t go to bed until after 11. Normally, he goes at 8:30. But, we went out to eat last night at 6. Then we went to Target and got the girls some new shoes. (Kat’s not only tall, but she’s wearing an 8 1/2 now. Her tennis shoes were a 7, and there was no hope in getting her feet in them I noticed after I put away the flip flops yesterday and pulled out her tennis shoes from last fall. She wore her snow boots to Target. LOL) Then, he dilly dallied on his homework, whined, cried, he didn’t want to do it, finally got it done an hour later, and went to bed.
We got Alyce a pair that looks like this minus the kitty. Her’s have a big ol’ daisy where the kitty is, same color though. (I just can’t find the pair we got her online)
But, online I saw these
and these
and I love them. I want them. LOL She fell asleep with just her shoes and a diaper on last night. She kept grabbing her feet and looking at once of us smiling and jibber jabbering, I think she liked them. AND they are only $12.99, take that Robeez! LOL
Then Kat got these
Because they didn’t have the Dora ones she wanted in her size, and I said she had to get tennis shoes, not dress shoes, because it’s getting colder and she has to have her feet covered. So, she supposed she’d suffer through with the Disney Princess ones. She had to wear them out of the store, and when I was buckling her in, she said, “Mom, I’m so excited! I got new shoes!” You like your shoes huh? LOL
Well, I’ve written a book again this morning, so I’ll sign off and get to work before Bunny gives me 50 lashes.
Have a great Thursday!
