LOL What a title huh?
I felt so much for Jordan last night. He broke my heart actually. He had soccer practice, and he had a good attitude during practice, so I didn’t think anything was wrong with him.
After practice, I normally have to chase him down to get him in the car. While I was talking to his coach, about how good he is at defense, he went to the car on his own. Now, let me tell you about the conversation with the coach, because it was awesome. He told me the other day that Jordan is the best sweeper they have on the time. He’s got no fear, and he’ll charge anyone coming at him with the ball. He is on under 10 this year which means they have GOALIES! Finally! And coach told me that if Jordan wanted to play goalie that he would like that. I told him we’d get Jordan goalie gloves, knee pads, and a goalie jersey for when he plays that. Now, he’ll still play other positions, but he’ll focus on goalie, which is what he has wanted to ever since he started playing soccer 3 1/2 years ago.
So, imagine my surprise when I get in the car and Jordan is crying. HUH? I just had a conversation about how good he is doing, and he’s crying? He told me that he doesn’t want to play soccer anymore, because the other boys won’t pass the ball to him, that he can’t make goals. I said, you’ll finish out the season, but let’s talk about how you can get them to pass the ball to you.
Now, if you noticed in my pics of Jordan below, he’s a little bit on the husky side. And, he’s not a fast runner. Which, I’m assuming one has to do with the other, though, when I was younger and skinny, I was never a fast runner. So, maybe it’s genetic? LOL I said, Jordan, how can you get the boys to pass you the ball? He didn’t know. I told him, you need to run faster. Now, how can you run faster? He didn’t know. LOL I said, you need to practice running. So, last night, he ran as fast as he could around our apartment building 5 times. (Our building is really long – I could probably make it half way around LOL) He was dying! I’d (carrying the baby) jog around our side to the back with him, then yell, run little man run! and he’d run around the back, then I’d job back up to the front as he was coming around that side, and yell, you can do it! I know you can, almost there..he’d pass me and say, one more time! LOL
I think he if he ran for 20 minutes or so every night, not only would it help with his weight, he’d probably be faster. Jordan has always fought his weight – well, except for when he took Ritalin, then he got so skinny that his hip bones were bruising his skin, and I took him off of it. Since I took him off of it at the end of kindergarten (he just started 2nd grade) he has gained 42 pounds. So, he was a 68 lb 3 year old, at 7 he weighed 56 lbs, and now at 8 1/2 he’s 98 lbs. I’ve cut down his portions, don’t keep any junk food in the house, and we don’t get McDonalds that often any more. And he still is gaining. I shoo him outside whenever he has a chance. I don’t know what else to do, other than be out there encouraging him when he is running. I just want him to be happy and healthy, and he’s not always happy when I’m trying to make him healthy. LOL
