A Warning & A Lady Bug Goodie

Posted by Heather On July - 21 - 2007

I had to post this because I know that it happened.  This is 2 emails below, 1 from my aunt to my dad, and one from my other aunt to my aunt who sent the email.  I’m ticked off, but I thank God that my grandma has so many people looking out for her.

______________________________________________

From My Aunt Peggy

See message below, be careful who you talk to on the phone, my mom has been getting some phone calls recently, she gave out her bank acct numbers over the phone last week, they offered her long distance calling service, then she realized after she had hung up what she had done, called her bank and had that account closed immediately, well they have been calling her back telling her the bank numbers weren’t working and they need her correct numbers. She had told them NO repeatedly but continue to call her and yell at her. Below is a message from Polly dealing with mom and this situation yesterday. Some how they found out mom has recently been widowed and are taking advantage of elderly people. How terrible, and we told mom, “don’t ever give out that kind of information over the phone or to anyone!”, she is learning, maybe she will think more that the assisted living isn’t such a bad idea after all.

From My Aunt Polly

Hi, you two!
How are things going for you this morning? Well, I didn’t get to talk to you two last night after I got done at Mom’s. (Didn’t plan on going over there yesterday.) Mom called me yesterday when I was in town with Amanda- (Met her on her lunch break and did a little shopping and grabbed a bit to eat.) Anyway, I called her on my way back home as I noticed I had a voicemail from her. She was really upset and nervous, said she’s been receiving quite a few calls and wondered if I could come over there. I tried to call Mom back and her phone was busy. Made me real nervous. I called Wayne on his cell phone and he was in Des Moines helping move one of Ruth Ann’s kids. Anyway, he told me that Mom was getting those calls from that place again and he told her to just hang up on them. I finally got a hold of Mom and I could tell it was making her nervous being there by herself. I told her I would come over. She said she could see if Sue or Jo Ann could come over and I said that’s okay I’d be right over.
Mom told me that they called like 5 times between the morning and the time I got there which was like a little after 2:00. These people called twice while I was there. I told Mom I’m getting those calls. I answered and sure enough it was the same lady that had been calling Mom. She had a thick accent like Mom said and was saying Elsie and I said yes and she said we need to get those account numbers verified. I said no! I am not giving you any acct information. Why are you people bothering my mom? She told you she isn’t interested in your services! She said please stop and listen to me. We are trying to put that money back into her acct. There was 200.00 that was taken out and I have the money right here in my hand to get put back in there. I said there was no money taken out. She said yes there was, please listen to me. We will put it back in. I asked her for the name of the company she worked for and the phone number and she talked so low and with such a accent I couldn’t understand her. She ended up hanging up on me. Later on she called again and was requesting the same information saying they needed that information and that she needed to verify the information she had. (Probably thinking I would correct her if she had the wrong acct number.) She said they were trying to put the money back in Mom’s acct. I said I would call the bank and check into it and to give me the phone # there so I could call her back. She just kept insisting that I give her the acct information and that they caught the criminals that took the money out and they would be putting it back in. I told her I needed to talk to someone else that could speak better English. She got a man on the phone and he still had a accent but could understand him a little better. He just kept saying we want to get this handled just give us the acct information so we can do so. I said no! I will call the bank to check on this and if the money was taken out I will call you back, so give me your phone number and the name of the business. He said this was the Federal Bureau. What’s the phone number and he gave me this 800 number for the Long Distance telemarketing company. I did check that too.
After he gave me that information he still wanted me to give him the acct number and I said no. He asked me if I have a husband there and I said yes I have a husband. He said no you don’t. I said why do you say that. He said because you’re a prostitute. I said you’re sick and the police will be involved and this call has been traced. He hung up right after that. Anyway, I called Mom’s bank and there was no funds taken out of the acct. We contacted Chuck from the Police department and he came over around 6:30 and gave him the scoop. He called the 800 number that I gave him and he asked for the supervisor and spoke to him asked him what type of company this was and if it did indeed offer Long Distance services and he said yes. Chuck said there is a resident here in receiving disturbing calls from this place and asked if they have Mom in their system. Gave Mom’s name and address. They said no. The supervisor asked Chuck if he could ask him a question and he said sure. He said did these people that are calling have a accent and asking for acct information and saying they will put money back into her acct. He said yes. The supervisor said he’s been receiving some complaints about such a thing happening. Chuck said well you better get your attorney’s lined up because we’re contacting the Attorney General’s office about this. He said you will be hearing from them. He said have you gotten any attorney’ lined up before this and he said no. Chuck said quite frankly I’m surprised you haven’t as you will be hearing from them. Anyway, Chuck advised us to put a trap on Mom’s phone. Now when she gets a call from them right after the call she is to dial Star57 and hopefully it will trap or have traced that call. It will cost like a dollar each time and they said to do it no more than three different times. After that she’s to call this Annoyance 800 line.
Hopefully, it’s going to be all taken care of. I got home about 8:15 last night. Mom kept thanking me for coming over there. I know she feels bad for having to have me come over. I don’t like to see her feel so upset. Those people are nothing but scamers and I hope we’re able to trap them. Better get going. Need to get my exercises done. Have to go to work at noon. Sorry this was so long.
Catch you later.
Love you,
Polly

So, please warn people who you love in your lives.  My grandma is from the age where you could trust people, you just can’t do that anymore.

Now, the Lady Bug freebie.  I must be on an insect kick lately.  :o )  Yesterday it was the Busy Lil Bee.  (Scroll down after you read Lani’s post about taking great pics!  She always has wonderful photography tips) Today, it’s the Lazy Lil Lady Bug.

The jaggeds came when I downsized the image for the web page, none of that is on the actual files.

The beads in this freebie were made using my Bead Happy Script – another tool you can use to customize an element to make it your own, and it’s available for commercial use!  The Ric Rac was made using my Ric-ity Rac-ity Script.  Same thing, totally customizable and available for commercial use!

Don’t give your friends the direct link to download, make sure you send them here to get the freebie themselves.

A Fun Website & A Freebie at SYAO

Posted by Heather On July - 20 - 2007

Lexi blogged about this fun website yesterday over at Scrap Your Art Out, so I had to go check it out!

The website is called Picnik.  And for those of us who aren’t that jazzy at snazzing up all those pics we take, this is PERFECT!  I took 3 of the pictures that I blogged about yesterday (scroll down to see the originals) and played with them for like 2 minutes each, tops at that site.  Check them out!

The one above I didn’t post yesterday, it was really blurry and I wanted to fix it before I posted it, but with the other effects applied, I kind of like it blurry.

So, I say, go check out Lexi’s review, and then check out the site, it was a lot of fun to play with!

I have a freebie posted at Scrap Your Art Out today!

Nothing has the jaggeds in it like it shows in the preview, I promise.  It just showed up when I downsized the image from Fotki.

Download at SYAO.

I’m a Goofball and lots of stuff + New Products!

Posted by Heather On July - 19 - 2007

Ok, so I went 5 days without internet right, called Qwest 3 times complaining that my return label wasn’t here yet.  Went to the library trying to upload my products.  Went up to borrow my neighbor’s modem.  It wouldn’t work either.  I was flipping out, Pato came over and said, um, that’s the wrong cord.  GRRRR.  I had the phone cord plugged in the whole time, not the cord that goes from the wall to the modem.  I am so mad at myself.

First, I have my first challenge done for the Amazing DigiScrap Race, check it out here.

So, the wedding was a blast!  Absolutely Beautiful!  My sister was a gorgeous bride!  I’ll share a few pics over the next few days.  I have so many between the wedding and the bachelorette party.

Miss Alyce, pretty as a princess.  Her dress was just beautiful!

My other little princess, Katiana – this is what she does when I say smile.

Do you know what shape this dress was in by the time we were done?  She had the bottom hem torn off, and the top layer over the skirt was separated from the dress.  I have no idea what she did.

Mr Snazzy Jordan.  He cleans up well!  I wanted to cry when I saw him all dressed up.  My little boy looked like a little man.  And he thought he was THE MAN!  Let me tell you, “Mom, I danced with 8 girls!”

Oops, mom caught me ripping apart her bouquet.

hmmmm, now what to do?

My baby sister, the beautiful bride.  *sniff*  Wasn’t she gorgeous?

My daddy walking her down the aisle.  Can I tell you, there were stairs?  I was so scared I would trip in my dress and heels.

A Manning family tradition:  Wheeling the bride around in a wheel barrow.  I think my Uncle Jim put some extra squeak in this one.  Can you tell Abby was thrilled?  The groom (Justin) cleans up nice too, doesn’t he?

Pato, lugging our daughter around like a sack of potatos.  LOL

My mom and dad boogying away.

Tomorrow, I’ll try to get up some pics of me, my mom, and more of my sis.

I’ve got some new products up in the store that I finished while I thought I had no internet.  LOL

This is Jordan’s Sandy Beach.

Enjoy the colors of the beach.  My son Jordan picked out this color scheme, and there you get the name, Jordan’s Sandy Beach.  full of tans, browns, and blues, this reminded me of an evening at the beach with the rich hues that only evening light can give.  this kit will work for everyone!  There are gorgeous elements that will work with either male or female Layouts.

A little of everything & a Freebie

Posted by Heather On July - 12 - 2007

We went to Super Target yesterday, I could not find the shirt that I wanted anywhere.  They did not have it.  So, I suffered and got a shirt that I cannot find a pic of to show you.  It’s black with a really deep v – like, I may need a safety pin, and there is lace along the v – actually, there is like a double layer v, the outside doesn’t have lace, the inside does, like a peek a boo thing, a heck, I’ll take pictures at the party.  LOL

Then, because my shirt is less dress, and because I was trying on heels and though, do I really really want to where heels when I’m going to be having a drink or too, and babysitting my drunk sister and her friends?  hmmmmm, no, not really.  So, I got these shoes instead.

I did it, I finally went back to my childhood and got some ballerina flats.  Did you know they are back in?  These ones actually feel like the real thing, really thin, hug your feet, but with a harder sole then a real ballet shoe would have.  And, I was surprised at how cute they looked on.  My mom kept telling me, just try them.  And I was like, but mom, I wore those when I was like 13.  What is up with all this stuff coming back in?  K, I’ll wear the ballerina flats – because they are cute on, and they give me something a little more dressy then flip flops, which I live in, to where with jeans, but if tight rolling your jeans EVER comes back in, you can’t count me out!  LOL

Now, my mama told me something that I was told I can’t repeat, and dang it, I can’t even put it here because family members come to my blog and read this, and if it got back to the person who actually said it, there could be problems in the Manning Kingdom.  But, the comment this person said, REALLY made me mad.  So, may I say - don’t sit and complain that someone isn’t helping  you out, when in the beginning, you said you didn’t want any help, and you have no right to complain because they helped you out anyway with something HUGE – and you just can’t remember and that’s just stupid because this was an big part of what you didn’t want help with.  Plus, they were going to help you out some more – and I don’t think they should anymore because you’re being ungrateful and don’t remember what they did for you in the beginning.  And don’t mess with my mama!  Dem be fightin’ words there.

I feel better there.

Alrighty, so I have 2 new PSP Scripts in the store right now.

Bead Happy

Want to have beautiful beads to add to your kits?  Not sure how to make the perfect bead?  You could buy beads, but not all beads suit all needs.  Beads usually come in a small size, if you resize one you will lose quality.  Bead Happy PSP Script creates Jumbo beads for you!  Each bead created is about 1 inch in size.  And the script allows you to size down.  No lost quality!  Now, you can have whatever size you need!

There are endless possibilities to the beads you can make!  You can use patterns (either ones you have saved or use a pattern from a paper that matches your kit), textures, or solid colors.  I have included instructions in a text file on how to work this script.

Check It Out!

Ric-Ity Rac-Ity

Let this PSP Script make your ric Rac for you!

Getting Nervous & a New Kit

Posted by Heather On July - 11 - 2007

Ya know, it’s not even my wedding and I’m getting nervous.  I’m actually nervous about time and having everything happen right working around the baby.

My sister’s wedding is Saturday.

The rehearsal dinner is Friday night.

The bachlorette party has been rescheduled (for the 3rd time ABBY) for Friday night.

Pato is bringing the kids to the rehearsal dinner with me.  I’m going to nurse Alyce before they leave and then it’s off to the bars.  My SILs are going to decorate Abby’s car with some interesting balloons before we leave for the party.

I’m going to go until well, I feel like I have to nurse again (I can usually skip one feeding and he gives her a bottle).  I can only miss one feeding, otherwise, I start having problems, and I’m not pumping in the bathroom at a bar.  BLECH!  smile_sniff

Then Saturday, the wedding starts at 5:30.  I have to be down there are 1.  I’m trying to figure out time wise when I need to put on my dress.  I have a full length strapless gown, not conducive to nursing.  LOL  So, I think I’ll have Jackie (one of the other brides maids who is a cosmetologist)  do my hair as soon as possible.  Help Abby with some stuff, hope Pato gets Alyce down to me in time so that I can nurse her before I have to put my dress on.  And hope that will last through the ceremony.  He can give her a bottle if he has to.

At some point, I’m going to have to go into a lounge to feed her, so I’m going to have to take a shirt to put on over my dress, have my mom come to the bathroom with me, unzip me, feed her, then call my mom and have her zip me back up.  AGH!  Do you see why I’m a little nervous about the logistics of this all?

Normally, I have no problems nursing in public under a blanket, but with a strapless gown on, that’s going to show a little more than I’m wanting to show people.  ESPECIALLY if Miss Alyce yanks the blanket down.  Which, she has thought was a REALLY fun game lately, that along with biting.

I was supposed to go to Target last week, which I didn’t get to do.  Things just didn’t work the way I wanted them to.  So, I still need to do that today, hopefully they still have the shirt and shoes I want.  PLUS, I need to get Katiana shoes, Jordan something to wear (I want him to wear a tie at least, I was going to do a full suit, but it’s getting really hot here), and something for Miss Alyce to wear, I think she’s going barefoot with pretty painted piggies.  She takes her shoes off and it’s too hot for tights.  So, I’ve got a full day of shopping today.  Not to mention, I need to go grocery shopping.  AGH!  I won’t do that with all 3 kids, I refuse.  I usually wait til Wednesdays to do it so Pato can go with me, but he is working today because he is taking the whole weekend off for the wedding.

Oh Oh OH, Pato and I are also the designated drivers for Saturday night.  Even if I come home early, when my SILs call, one of us has to go get their drunk butts and drive them home.  Let’s hope that I’m feeding Alyce and Pato can make that trek out.  smile_wink

New kit in the store!  I am really really happy with the way this one turned out!

It is called Splash O’ Melon.

This kit brings to mind the beautiful days of summer as you decorate your layouts with the beautiful colors of melons.  Splash your layouts with fun papers in shades or orangy reds and honeydew greens.  Plenty of elements to make your pages sparkle!
Included with purchase:  2 bonus ripped pages

I’m not going to list the whole contents here, but there is a lot of stuff!  Check it out in the store to see what all there is!  It’s on sale right now- 25% off

Don’t forget to snag the free QP that goes with this!

Just finished a LO with the kit!  I used my All Bent Up Frames also!

And I’ve got 2 fun new scripts (Commercial) going into the store, hopefully today or tomorrow, if you use PSP, check back here, they are going to make your life easier!

And my next kit, that I’ve been working on – but got um…sidetracked by the scripts – is more masculine.  I know people complain that there aren’t enough boy kits out there, so there is one coming!

MMMMM Yummy!

Posted by Heather On July - 9 - 2007

I don’t have a freebie for ya’all today because well, I’m getting ready for my parents’ 30th wedding anniversary thing tonight.  We 4 kids are cooking dinner for them.  Actually, grilling, but we’re making it for them.

I’m bringing:

hamburger

shredded mozzarella cheese

mushrooms

buns

for the hamburgers.  (We’re going to mix the hamburger, cheese, and mushrooms together, then throw it in patties on the grill)

And I made 2 easy easy easy pies this morning that are in the freezer.  They taste better than they look (I’m not artistic in the kitchen at all!) but they taste so good, I had to share the recipe.

  This is called Lemonade Pie.

I used raspberry lemonade.  So easy, 3 ingredients for the filling.

1 can of frozen lemonade (any flavor will work)

1 8 oz container of cool whip

1 small can of sweetened condensed milk

Graham Cracker Crust

I just added everything to the bowl (The lemonade was still frozen) and mixed up with my mixer.  I didn’t use quite all of the condensed milk, just watch so that it doesn’t become runny)

Pour it in the crust, watch because it could run over easily.  See the picture above.  LOL  Then throw it in the freezer.  I’m transporting mine in a cooler and putting it in the fridge at my mom’s house to thaw a little.

I have no idea what this one is called – we’ll call it Strawberry Pie

1 sm package of cream cheese

1 8 oz container of cool whip

1 c powdered sugar

1 lb bag of frozen strawberries

1 graham cracker crust

I mixed the powdered sugar and cream cheese up first (with my mixer)

Then I added the cool whip, mixed all of that well.

I got whole strawberries, only because Pato didn’t realize I wanted sliced ones, but I threw them in my food processor while they still frozen and chopped them up small.

Mixed all that together, poured it in the crust, threw it in the freezer.

We almost have enough left over of both of them to do another pie.  So, you might try either not using as much cool whip, or make 2 pies.  smile_regular

I cannot wait to eat some!  LOL  The baby was covered in the raspberry filling because the kids were um, sharing while I was throwing the strawberry one together.  She’s so sticky.

All together, both pies took me about 15 minutes to make.  So so easy and both taste like a dream!

It stinks, my mom has diverticulitus (SP?).  More or less she can’t eat anything with seeds, or corn, or nuts.  Somehow it lodges, I think in her colon, and causes severe pain.  So, the strawberry pie is out, but the raspberry has no seeds, so she can enjoy that one!

Connie at DigiScrap Info posted about Windows Live Writer over at DST, so I went and checked out their blog and got the 411.  Then, of course I had to check it out!

If this works, how easy is this?  I can blog from my desktop, save it and then upload.  This would have saved me so much misery back when my old computer was failing and I was writing a post, losing it when my IE or Firefox had shut down.  Oh it stunk!

So, let’s hit post and see how this works!  *crossing my fingers*

**edited** It worked!  YAY!

Not a lot and a Freebie

Posted by Heather On July - 8 - 2007

Well, I had fun taking pics yesterday, and I’m saving most of them for layouts if I shared now, they’d all be duplicates for you!  But, since I haven’t posted a decent pic of my new haircut, I thought I’d show you guys a pic that Jordan took of me.  Not bad for an 8 year old.

This is my new do, not that you can see it that well, but I loved the pic.

You think one of these days, I’d actually redo my make up when I have someone take a pic of me.

And for those that missed it, this is my old do.  I cut off like 14-15 inches.  It was crazy.   It was getting to be a few inches from my waist when I did it.

And your freebie for today.  I’m playing around with a new kit that I’m working on, trying to come up with different elements and started playing with frayed string doodles.  So, that is what you get today!

Don’t forget to check out the sale I’m having!  13 of my products are on sale for 99 cents! and that includes some full sized kits!

The blue one actually stretches from upper corner to the opposite bottom corner, so you can use it in a variety of ways I could think.

Don’t give your friends the direct download link, send them to my blog to download the goodies themselves!
