The Things I Let My Son Talk Me Into

Posted by Heather On May - 26 - 2007

Ok, can I start this post off with saying, I try to choose my battles, really I do.  But, I’m not sure if I made the right choice.  LOL  I’m actually feeling better today after I’m over the shock of it.

I cut Jordan’s hair.  I have for a few years now because he HATES having his hair cut.  Even at 8 he still whines and cries, and jumps all the way through it for anyone.  I think it’s an adhd thing and being stimulated in a way he doesn’t like.

Anyways, I cut it normally and he said, mom, can I have it like that one guy, you know, you’re cousin?  Well, no, no you can’t.  Then Pato’s friend Omar jumped on Jordan’s band wagon, how it was just hair, etc – let him do it, etc etc etc.  So, I thought, ok, they are right, it’s just hair.  Now, mind you I wasn’t thinking my cousin is a grown man, with a tan, lives in Alabama is out in the sun.  I mean really, it looks awesome on Buddy.

Before

After

And after again

Yep, you got it, my little man is bald.  I did it last night, and after the inital shock wore off and I slept on it, I actually kind of like it.  This morning, I asked Jordan how he felt cuz last night he was going between loving it and hating it.  He said this morning that he likes it and wants to keep his head bald.  All righty then.

I emailed his teacher last night so she wouldn’t make a huge oh my gosh thing when she saw him today.  I really was worried the kids would make fun of him.

I put sun screen all over his bald little head this morning, that thing hasn’t seen the light of day in 8 years.  Seriously when I was shaving it and seeing his scalp and how white and gray colored it was, I thought I was seeing through it to his brain.  LOL  I also gave him a baseball cap to put on it during recess.  Which I guess he didn’t wear.  But, he did put the sunscreen on it before every recess today.  Good Boy.

I think he just needs to get some sun.  LOL  There’s such a dramatic contrast between his face and his scalp color, it’s shocking.

You know, for those of us who gave birth to a bald baby (Jordan – my girls both had a little hair) you spend all this time waiting for it to grow in, it does, they grow a nice thick full head of hair and they want to shave it bald.  LOL

He only had a couple of kids make fun of him at school.  They told him he was an old man cuz he lost all his hair and he was bald.  But his response was, all the awesome basketball players are bald!  I listed off some for him, but I don’t know if he used them, or heck if kids even know the ones I know now a days.  LOL  Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Shaq.  Are they still popular?  LOL

I asked my 3 year old if she wanted mommy to shave her head and she giggled and said, no mommy, I’m not a boy.  LOL  Good!  Cuz I wasn’t going to do it anyway.

A positive, Alyce has more hair than someone in our family now.  LOL

She was so funny today.  Jordan bent over her and she kept grabbing his head and squeeling.  LOL  Even she noticed the change.

Jordan’s pics have that black square around them because I took them with my phone camera, uploaded them to sprint and just snagged them from there rather than emailing them to myself.  It was the camera I had in my hand at that moment.

Ummm, my husband and his brother decided to shave their heads a few years ago. All I can say is keep putting that sunscreen on! My hubby said that it was the most painful sunburn he has ever had!

After the shock wears off it really doesn’t look that bad. That is good that he likes it, Kyle now doesn’t like his mohawk and wants to shave it off however, I won’t let him b/c we paid money for him to look like a zebra so he’s gunna suffer for awhile longer lol.
