And my third baby is not going to make it to one if her sister has anything to do with it.
Today, my oldest, Jordan, turned 8. I cannot believe it! Where has the time gone? It seems like just yesterday I was going through 24 hours of labor with 13 of those being induced by pitocin and only 4 of them helped by an epidural. Of course, I’ve had 2 more since then. LOL
Last night I stayed up til 2 a.m. making 3 fruit pizzas. That’s what he wanted for snack at school today. So, 2 went to school, and the third one we used in place of a cake tonight. His party is tomorrow and he wanted a Yu Gi Oh cake, so that will be picked up at 1 tomorrow.
The pizza was a big hit with his friends. They wanted more, sorry, it took long enough to make 3 of those, let alone 5. LOL
I told Jordan awhile ago we were going to start giving a few less presents each year because I think we make too big of a deal over how much they each get. Ok, actually, my mom thinks I go way overboard for each kid, and after thinking about it, I think she might be right.
So, Jordan told me a few things that he would like to have, and that’s what he got. He got a Razr Scooter. I screwed up though, he wanted one with blue wheels. Well, the one on the box had blue wheels. But the one in the box has red wheels. How was I supposed to know? Ok, there really was a color chart on the box. I didn’t know that til after he opened it. I had a 2 year old and a 2 month old while I was cruising Target to find this yesterday. I had the rest of his presents bought at the beginning of the month, but Pato was shelling out the money for the scooter and he just gave me the ok yesterday to go get it because he hadn’t gotten it yet. He decided the red wheels weren’t so bad though, he really doesn’t want to wait to return it to ride it. He can’t ride it this weekend though. It’s raining ice pellets out, and we are supposed to get 4 – 8 inches of snow this weekend. Not exactly scooting weather.
Then he got 2 of the big GI Joe guys he wanted, a Tamagachi, a Power Ranger on a motorcycle, and a YuGiOh movie. That’s it, that’s all I got, I’m mighty proud of myself. If you know how many presents I usually get…you’d be proud of me too. LOL Oh, and a new shirt. Had to have that to wear to school today!
His dad will never come to “town” (Des Moines) to buy his presents, so he gives me the money, has me buy, wrap, and hand over the finished goods so he can get the credit. So, he’s got 3 more presents to open on Sunday. The price of trying to keep a civil relationship with your ex-husband for the sake of your son.
Now, on to the poor baby. Alyce is almost 3 months old, and Kat has taken to beating her up. Not with malice mind you but because she is 2 1/2.
Sunday, I believe it was, I was putting Kat’s socks on her, Alyce was sitting on my lap. Kat thrust her foot in the sock hard, and I said, don’t do that again, you could kick Alyce. So, I go to put her other sock on, she was doing good, coming slowly at me, then she jabbed forward and kicked Alyce in the nose. Nice. Baby screaming, Kat crying, me yelling, it was beautiful. So, I have a conversation with her about being gentle around the baby. (After I calmed down)
Flash to Tuesday, I was getting ready to take a shower. I always wait til Pato’s home, and shower the girls with me so that he can dry, lotion, and dress them while I’m finishing up. I’m looking for clothes for me, and he lays Alyce on the bed and walks out. (she can’t roll yet, and she was in the center of the bed) Kat was beside me. Alyce started crying. Kat grabs her book, said, I’ll get her. She wanted to read to her. I said, no, don’t, I’ll —- Kat jumped on the bed, then jumped up in the air, and came down on her knees. Guess what one knee landed on? Not on the bed! She landed on Alyce’s forehead. Alyce was screaming, she had a lump on her head the size of Kat’s knee cap. I gave Alyce to Pato, grabbed the Tylenol and the moon rice bag we keep in the freezer for such emergencies. While he was administering this stuff, I called my mom who works at my doctor’s office. Kind of nice to be able to use the back line to get through without holding when it’s something important. I don’t abuse it, I promise! She grabbed my nurse who said to bring her in immediately. So, at this point, I’m naked, under a robe, seriously needing a shower cuz I’d been cleaning all morning, cleaning = sweating, sweating = I was just gross. So, I toss my hair up in a pony bun thing, throw on a nursing bra, a sweat shirt, a pair of sweat pants, forgot the underwear, that’s how panicked I was. Had I not been nursing, and know how it feels when I don’t wear a bra I would have forgot that too. I was out the door with the baby and at the doctor in 8 minutes. He checked her, said she was fine, he thought, but sent home a pamphlet on head injuries. I could just scream. Now, Kat sat in her room half the time I was gone, and I know daddy read her the riot act about jumping around the baby AGAIN.
Bring us to today. I was sitting on the floor, Alyce laying beside me with her Elmo thingy she loves to watch above her, Kat is on the other side of the room. I rarely put this child on the floor cuz I’m scared something will happen. Jordan leaned his scooter up against the entertainment center, can you see where this is going??? I was sitting RIGHT there! I reached over to grab a plastic bag I had sitting a few feet away so Jordan could throw his paper away. In that split second, Kat had the scooter and not intentionally, but none the less dropped it and the handle, thank god it was padded, hit Alyce, in the head. It barely brushed, her, but still. It freaked me out. I was right there, and the scooter was 10 feet away from Katiana when I moved. All I did was lean over to grab the bag and hand it to Jordan. Not like I left the baby laying in the middle of the floor for Kat to just toss around like a rag doll.
I don’t know what to do, there is no place that I can put this child, except for in my arms that she is safe from Kat’s “helping”. If she’s in the swing, Kat is leaning over her, if she is in the play yard, Kat’s trying to climb it or throw things in it for Alyce to play “with”. If she’s in her bassinet, same thing. If she’s in her crib, she’s climbing and poking through the sides to “play” with her.
Seriously, she’s never gonna learn how to roll over. She has to be in my arms all the time. If you spot spelling errors. it’s usually cuz I’m typing with one hand cuz I’m nursing or holding the baby while I’m blogging. If I get a chance to really play (like today’s list of freebies) it’s cuz I have the swing right next to me and Alyce and Kat are sleeping or Kat is playing off in her room for a bit, which isn’t an every day occurrence. What to do what to do.
The rest of you who have 2 years or less between your kids, how did you keep the youngest safe from the other little one trying to help??? I’ve done time outs, I’ve taken things away, I’ve praised when she is being really gentle with Alyce, and I hate to admit it, but I’ve yelled, and loud. Ask my kids after the scooter fell over her.
Any suggestions?
